Pattaya – The Pattaya City Mayor stated today, January 4th, 2022, that widespread business or public area closures will not be part of the plan to deal with many confirmed Covid -19 cases in the Banglamung area, many of which seem to be the fast-spreading Omicron variant.

Mayor Sontaya Kunplome told TPN media, “There are many more confirmed Covid -19 cases, mostly the Omicron variant based on random testing so far, found in the Pattaya and Banglamung area. However, I am confident there will be no lockdown or overall closure of the city BUT closure will be ordered for individual businesses, not entire sectors, that do not follow our compulsory Covid -19 measurements.”

“Every staff member, including singers and performers, at restaurants that sell alcohol must take an ATK (rapid antigen Covid-19) test every day they work until further notice. Business operators must provide an ATK test for their customers or customers must show proof of an ATK test within 72 hours, regardless of their vaccination status. We have implemented free courtesy testing checkpoints around the city to make this easier.” The mayor explained, referring to the controversial tougher measurements.

Ah, pay up or shut up

Quite likely decisions will come from over his head, so he is simply distancing himself from them!

Seems those famous areas have spread more than just the good times.

They don't follow many other rules, I can't see this one being adhered to either.

The honorable Mayor needs to clarify the process for incarceration if I test positive by one of his roving band of Stazi testing units.

Do I get a chance to kiss goodbye to the wife and family, and collect and hide a few escape implements and a compass in my swag?

Or am I at the full mercy of the State and I just have to assume the rules of The Geneva Convention will be followed?  I doubt it - the Geneva Convention rules for POW's (and even war criminals) are much more relaxed than current State isolation rules for Sars-coV-2.

All well and good , however, many have not been vaccinated even once nevermind twice?

Omicron and Covid running side by side surely spells double disaster!!!!

I noticed tonight in passing that central Pattaya has become noticeably less busy, several recently popular bars remain shut, I think many Christmas tourists are now on their way home or are in the process of - possibly now isolating before critical pre flight PCR testing

Are you claiming that there are random testing groups forcing people to undergo Covid tests somewhere? All I heard of was testing stations at Treetown and a couple of other places where a test was voluntary. Or is the use of the word 'Stazi' just some drama queen nonsense?

I woulda been there but am at home self isolating and hiding from the Gestapo.

Funny thing is, in nearly two years I have only met one guy who had Covid.  Until this last week and suddenly I can list 10 people I know doing the same thing as me - slight cold and tested positive.

And then Missus and daughter woke up with a runny nose this morning.  My name is MUD!!

I used "Gestapo" in another post.  You'll love that one!

It would be interesting to know how they know what variant affects a person.

Ahh !

The pre flight PCR test before the flight back home.

It would be my guess that most of the Tourists have not even considered this prior to their Thailand jaunt over Christmas and New Year.

For many it will be Squeaky Bum time, and for some its going to be an expensive extended Holiday.

Good for the bars that have "rental girls" that "performers" will be tested daily. I guess the "non-performers" will die out. :bah:

All those tests will come from where though?

Good you are still affected!

Unfortunately, the final decision is not the mayor's to make.

I won't be doing the official checks at the checkpoints they've set up, I'm just out of hospital (not hospitel) and apparently could test positive for a few weeks.  NOT being dragged back, wasn't a nice place to spend time in.

That’s me. I have a preflight RT-PCR test tomorrow. I have tried to isolate, and had a negative ATK last week, but anything is possible.

I don't mind the early morning heavy lifting so much, but I refuse point blank to make the coffee!

Didn't they give you some sort of get out of jail free card?

You know, like when you get nicked for not wearing a helmet and pay the official fine, they give you a receipt that exonerates you from guilt for the same offence for seven days.

Can you expand on the situation you found yourself in, how you wound up in hospital and the conditions/rules etc?   I'm sure many of us would appreciate more information.

And how you can test positive  after having recovered?

Who requires you to have this test?

So the customers will be tested. The staff will be tested but the owners wonted be tested even though  they sit there drinking  everyday!

ATK tests may still show positive whereas a full on TR-PCR test will show negative as you can no longer spread.

I beleive in some countries you can use papers showing you've had covid in the last xx days instead of a negative test to enter some venues, uk comes to mind.

Yes, this is the one that will catch out many tourists i suspect.
