One can buy chrome paint in an aerosol. 

A bit of masking tape and newspaper and bingo a bit of DIY.

If the original paint is left intact then there will be no perceived chemical action.

Surely reflectivity will be a benefit as it increases the visibility of the rider. Like hanging a compact disc on the back.

 

On the compact disc theme. I have noticed that their reflectivity is a definite issue for other road users????

Ok if simply fluorescent, but not if it reflects the sunlight in other driver's eyes.  

 

Why such coatings / materials are illegal in some USA states.
