Homicide Rate (per 100k people)

United States
Homicide Rate: 4.96

Thailand
Homicide Rate: 2.58

Thailand isn't doing so bad for a developing nation when you compare it to the USA which  is supposedly a first world developed country

According to my stats the murder rate is higher here.

49.6 per million compared to the US, which is 42 per million. Depends on where you get the stats.

Regardless, the most important stat for us is violence perpetrated in foreigners. Which is low here. If they want to kill each other, it is sad, but it is what it is.

My wife mentioned a few days ago that Thais are murdering are a higher rate now. Many of her customers are pawning their last piece of gold at her gold shop, and they don't know what to do when the last few baht run out. Extreme desperation is coming, expect to see more of this trend. Psyche can only take so much before it snaps. Time for a businessman to run the country again. And if you're a general, it's time to think about an exit strategy, it only gets worse from here and all fingers are pointing at you.

Very true. It is called the Prayuth devastation. He has obliterated the economy. Army boys should never be allowed to run anything but a barrack, or a maintenance depot. They are grossly under qualified for the real world.

I thought it was the Covids that has disprupted the Thai economy... Much like it has done in many countries around the world, Is Prayuth also to blame for those countries ?

Wow. Talk about missing the point. It is not Covid. It is the way it was handled. The US economy is doing very well. So is Mexico, which never had one economic shutdown. Prayuth has utterly decimated a major industry here. Face up to the facts. Highly selective, and highly favorable (to the rich cronies) shutdowns do not accomplish much, other than putting millions out of work.

Has no one every wondered why the Thai news media focuses on crime and car accidents? Number one is to distract the public from the more important things like political unrest and corruption. Secondly, if they can keep the public in fear from robbers, murderers and drug addicts, they can justify such a huge police force and secure their positions so they can keep the corruption gravy train rolling down the tracks. Why do you think the police line up to have their photographs taken after they take these scoundrels into custody? They must continue to perpetuate the pubic perception that the much needed police are heroes and are here to protect the citizenry against all the dregs of society, so they are a much needed institution. It's all just camouflage! The protection of the citizenry is way down the list of priorities, and bribes and corruption are number 1.

I always wonder how much of these photo ops with drug hauls are recirculated with corrupt cops.

Tourism. Down 98%. A 3 trillion baht a year industry prior to the shutdowns. Exports are down. Foreign investment is down. Airlines are down. Restaurant trade is down. New car sales are way, way down. The real estate industry is way down, both condos and commercial. Shall I go on?

Where have you been?

Not the least bit true in Thailand. Spoken to several dealers. They are having a very hard time selling new cars for the past year or so.

Where are you getting your information from? It appears highly suspect.

I doubt they are reading this.

You will find comments add some form compassion such as rip etc. Of course, we understand that the families (and indeed others police, gov. etc. ) read our comments cos if they did...It doesn't hurt to show a little sympathy after reading an appropriate OP.

I work in the auto industry (manufacturing).

Am not talking about car dealerships.

OK. New car demand is up outside of Thailand due to the supply chain issues. So, at least one sector here is healthy. Thankfully.

Way too many. The army is a plague. They are a national disease here. They take and take and give very little in return.
