Prohibitory pricing of 'new test & go' starting February

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

I was looking up for new test & go - options starting 1/Feb.

Pricing appears prohibitory.

First test & go @ bangkok seems start in the region of 5000+ and goes up to 2-4 times that for a reputed hotel.

The shocker is the second test & go pricing.

- There does not seem to be any test & go in pattaya or chiang mai for less than 5000 baht. This is for the 2 - 2.5 star category.

- one night stay & PCR (included, i assume) in a 4 star & above goes in the range of 12-15,000 baht @ pats or CNX.

Even if PCR tests are being charged @ 3000baht, that accounts for a room charge of 9-10,000 baht a night! If this is not meant to discourage travelers, what else could it be?

At above rates, the new 'test & go' appears to be more expensive than a 7 day sandbox stay in mid-range hotel in Phuket!!

J Hotel in Pattaya is 9800 baht for collection at Suvarnabhumi, tests on day 1 and 5 and room on day 1 and 5, that's ok if you ask me.

BKK Citrus soi 11 comes to 8039 baht.

It's indeed very unattractive, I agree. Not many will come.

And it is ok if you have a family of four or 5?

I see packages in Bangkok for 5 nights all included in the range 10-15000 baht in very decent looking hotels.

No holiday is cheap if you have a family of 5.

As i continue to say for regular tourists it's still not worthwhile coming, for returning long time expats or regular travellers it's a huge improvement to the quarantine option.

A face saving band-aid or blatant munny grab. Take your choice the scheme will change again in 6 weeks or so. Could go either way depending on the nature of the next variant.

Precisely, accept what they have on offer and deal with it or don't come - they're the 2 options.

Be interesting to know if you booked a hotel for a month and did the test and go in the same hotel if you room would be 1000 a night and them 5000 a night for your test days !

Amber Sukhumvit 85 is 7,600 for Days 1 & 5, and 10,900 for 5 days, so they are charging 1,100/n for the extra nights.

Yes, but how many times must it be said, they no longer want hoi polloi such as you or me, the target is high rollers to whom ten or twenty thou at the start of a holiday (and the potential for much more in hospital bills if they sat next to a positive on way over).

It's the New Thainess Normal.

I think you've got your 5 day test and go packages (5 nights accommodation) mixed up with your 5th day test and go packages (1 nights accommodation).

it includes transfer from airport, pcr test, room, and 1 to 3 meals.

I don't know why Covid tests can't be made cheaper in Thailand? Is the big pharma companies earning a lot on these tests?

I don't think most tourists will come to spend 10,000 baht for the two covid tests and quarantine hotel just to spend one or two weeks in Thailand like a normal tourists would do because they have real jobs back home.

This country is crazy.Everything is about money from foreigners who is so stupid their going there at this time.People can many other countries where even PCR-test is free at arrival.Force people to this stupid rules is directly greedy.

1 to 3 meals would cost only 120 baht on Thai street food.

Transfer from airport would cost only 200 baht if we take the airport train and local taxi.

So all these expenses are exorbitant and will put real tourists off.

thanks for the information .

seems indeed that the stupid greedy thai hoteliers are trying to squeeze any

satang

It does seem that way.

I understand the day-1 test ( so two tests within 3-4 days )

Day 5(so maybe 8 days after your first test) I think is ridiculous after you've been walking around for 4 days.

We own several apartments within a couple of mins of the Suk' Soi 11 hotel where we're planning on staying - so I literally have to leave my balcony and go a couple of mins to check into a hotel for a day-5 test - enforced stay I don't know.

BTW - my wife is a doctor and she thinks it's madness.

My wife wanted to go straight to Ubon after day-1, but she can't as no SHA++ hotels. Basically screws up plans.

For tourists who want to explore, it's just another stopper.
