Could you please tell me if this is official policy or is it something that may or may not happen if you test positive and are asymptomatic? The threat of an expensive hospital stay not covered by insurance is potentially stopping many people from going to Thailand.

 

A link to the official policy would be appreciated.

Yes, I just saw a youtube guy that was taken to the hospital with no symptoms at all. He was pretty upset and not a happy camper.

For vaccinated and uninfected travellers I can confirm no quarantine for Cambodia, not even 1 day.  I arrived here yesterday from UK (via BKK) having decided that it was easier to visit Cambodia than Thailand.  A negative PCR test was required before departure from the UK and there was a free of charge rapid test on arrival (are you listening Thailand?).  No insurance needed for Cambodia, although $50,000 cover for Thailand was required JUST TO TRANSIT through BKK!  My test result on arrival in Phnom Penh was negative & so I am now free to tour Cambodia without any restrictions. Transit in BKK was more of a hassle than arrival in PNH tbh.  I get the impression that the Cambodian Government is trying to rescue the tourist industry.  I do not get that impression from the Thai Government, rather that they are trying to create the impression that they are trying to do what Cambodia is actually doing.

I can see where this is going. This has been geared by the hotels to ensure any booking are made exclusively with them. This cuts out smaller guest houses etc. and makes sure the bigger hotels get all the incoming guests at this point.

I do not think you are correct. We shopped around, got a very simple hotel and paid 9,000 baht for the 1st nite, for a couple. Now a 2nd nite? It is just not worth it. Especially with the threat of a prison stint in a hospital at $3000, if you test positive, or are sitting too close to someone who does. What it your insurance turns you down, which is apparently happening to many?

 

Thailand has simply eliminated themselves from the face of worldwide tourism. Gone, baby gone.

They might keep a pre-departure COVID negative test, vaccination proof and insurance in place. All the other stuff: Day 1 & DAY 5, Thaialnd Pass/Test&Go/QR, will be dropped. Insurance will be dropped a bit farther out.

 

 

Testing and vaccination for years, Insurance is never going away imho how long was it mooted before? Some form of pre-travel authorization likely permanent. Hopefully they can make it easier and quick like the online portals of other certain countries I have experienced, and not so insecure to hacks

I don't care how easy it is to get a Thailand Pass. As long as the threat of a massive 'hospitel' bill with corresponding forced lock-up is hanging over me 5 days after I arrive because I've contracted Covid-19 locally, I'm simply not coming.

Don't be too sure about that. They claim there have been 200,000 applications - that may or may not be true but whatever the true figure is, much of that will be people with wives, families and other connections to Thailand.  Once that surge is passed and they see that the actual amount of touristsdoesn't even scratch the surface of the tourism defecit, provided Covid cases are falling, I think they'll scrap Thailand Pass.

 

I think though that fully vaccinated will be a long term requirement.

 

I agree that they don't care about their citizens but in recent months some influencial business leaders have started complaining - they will have to take note of that.

Myself and I'm sure a lot of other tourists would have no intention of going to Thailand with the current testing system. If you pay all that money to get there and what happens if you're positive with OMICROM on day 5 you gotta go into a quarantine for what? Remove these outdated rules and the tourists will come back

Came through from Manchester today (17th) 

Delays checking various countries requirements meant 50+ min delayed departure at Manchester.

Doha checking all Thai requirements, 20 min delayed departure.

Suva airport less than 10 mins at Thai Pass area + 10 mins at immigration

Wasn't that bad as both planes were rammed

Also for what it's worth, in my case after almost 11 years straight spent in the Kingdom, the first 3 months back in Europe felt awful and tasteless, I almost sunk into depression. After being in that delusional imaginary World that Thailand has to offer, I thought I'd never make it without Thailand.

 

It took me about another 3 months, so 6 months in total to adapt and adjust my lifestyle back to being an European but now that the pink rose tainted glasses effect has worn off, I see Thailand for what it is; "A deceptive Kingdom made of false promises, empty dreams, fake love traded for full scams, full of lies and tricks".

 

Once you've settled in Spain and adjusted, you'll be well off and after a while you'll begin to see Thailand for what it is; the Land of Lies.
