Michael Kofman, Russian military affairs expert, suggests Putin's utterly horrific, anti-mankind destruction of the dam will not have a significant effect on Ukraine's offensive. In part because they were unlikely to cross the river in the affected areas, which Russia had heavily fortified.

Sky News has just reported that Putin has said he will deploy tacticle Nuclear weapons as soon as next Month in Belarus. Either a bluff or if it goes tits up Belarus will be targeted first in  Retalitary strike . That is of course if there stopped on route to Belarus by special forces. The west will be closely monitering traffic from Russia.

He clearly wants to swallow Belarus and mobilize the people there. Probably easier for him than a full mobilization of Russia.

If this isn't a WW3 already it may as well be.

Experts say it would be impossible to achieve this kind of damage with a missile or a bomb dropped from a plane or anything like that, so that rules out Ukrainian involvement. Russia was the only one with direct access to this dam, so they rigged it with explosives and blew it up, there’s absolutely no doubt in my mind about that.

The Russians have been in control of the dam and power plant area for over a year.

 

At the end of May, Russia enacted a new law that waives the need for any investigation into accidents on dangerous sites or hydroelectric structures on occupied Ukrainian territory. 

 

Zelensky in a speech to the UN back in Oct warned them that Russia had mined the dam and he wanted international observers to inspect. Nobody went.

 

Just before the dam was blown its floodgates had been closed raising the water levels.

The Ukrainian counteroffensive is under way, has been for 2 or 3 days, and progress has not been easy.

 

A Ukrainian armored column including Bradleys and Leopard 2 that were trying to breach through a minefield was destroyed by the Russians using concentrated artillery on the slow ducks sitting in the open.

 

Things would be much better for Ukraine with air superiority, Ukraine should have received F-16 or whatever could be sent to them one year ago.

 

Let's hope other assaults fare better.

Losses by Ukrainian forces are expected so it isn't a worry some have been destroyed its a battle. In my opinion, If Ukrainian forces are slowly moving forward for every Drone or Missile that lands in a civilian area in Ukraine, Ukraine has the right to inflict damage to infrastructure and civilian areas in Russia including Hospitals and shopping centers.

Though they well deserve a 'bigger stick' , I suggest it would motivate the Russian population to enlist in the war.

 

The Ukrainians main advantage in this war is their resolve and commitment to win.

 

The 'London Blitz' shows that Hitler's civilian bombing did nothing to break the population's spirit and resolve or to win his war but only syphoned resources away from his attack of military targets and defence.

the targets need to be highly visible AND be military targets at the same time.

 

the Kherch bridge comes to mind.

 

military headquarter buildings in large cities would also be highly visible targets.

A just posted video of a Leopard 2A6 tank in Ukrainian service.  At precisely 16:00s you can just see the black tip of a depleted uranium round being loaded, at which point the video is clipped.

 

These rounds fit all Western tanks in Ukraine and are recently improved to insure penetration of the most modern Russian armor. Sorry Vlad.

It's not really surprising that pro-Ruzzian shills will push Ukraine to commit war crimes as well, so the Ruzzians can say "they did it too, they are not better than us".

Ukrainians, don't give them that satisfaction.
