DDC Says Daily COVID Cases May Exceed 100,000 in April

BANGKOK (NNT) - The Department of Disease Control (DDC) has warned that daily COVID-19 cases in Thailand could exceed 100,000 by the Songkran holiday in April under the worst-case scenario.

The DDC noted that whether the infection level decreases or increases in the coming weeks depends on how strictly safety precautions are followed. The agency also urged the public to avoid group activities, work from home, postpone unnecessary travel, maintain high immunization rates, and follow VUCA (Vaccine, Universal Prevention, COVID-Free Setting, and ATK) procedures.

The DDC said the most optimistic scenario would be for precautions to be fully enforced, which would keep daily infections at around 20,000 by the middle of this month. In a less hopeful forecast, it said daily cases would top 50,000 until the Songkran festival. In the worst-case scenario, daily infection rates could easily hit 100,000 by mid-April.

This is getting silly.

It's clear that people are aware that there is no advantage in reporting mild symptoms.

Even Liz 2 just carried on.

So the recent downtrend to just a little over 20k cases today is not to be believed then....oh the sarcasm as I write this.  The scare tactics by this government spokes people is why as another OP put it "60% of Thai's are scared of Covid"

Last week the news was covid numbers would decline from March 1st onwards........

Yeah, a news feed said the same thing today mostly all clear by Songkran.  Perfect timing as usual.

Yes, its rather what would after songkran.
so far its promissed not to be cancelled.
but i do wish it was. Rather already now, so people can plan accordingly, then just on the eve of mass exodus, as the last year.

Correct, the current numbers are mere fantasy.

It looks like they're beginning to acknowledge the actual situation instead of working on numbers based on some small and arbitrary number of tests.

They're wrong. Those numbers will be in May....few weeks after Songkran.

In your dreams, we're there already.
