Very true.  I dont think any of the World Powers really expect emerging countries like Thailand to do anything.

I dont think Ukraine do either.

Think again. That's not what Ukraine's top diplomat in Thailand says

"We must be honest. We must not be afraid to call a spade a spade. I appeal to all people in Thailand, including mass media. Please, start telling the truth about what happening in Ukraine! Stop calling the aggression against a sovereign country in the centre of Europe a “conflict” or “situation”. Ask Thai people who are returning from Ukraine what they feel about the war. The unprovoked aggression against Ukraine should be condemned in all possible ways and actions taken immediately to stop the war."

Will Thailand be expecting support from the UN, the EU et al when China finally takes over?

How many of the outraged posters on here will take any action? Will they all pack their bags and leave the country they now seem to despise? My guess is they will all stay hoping that Thailand's stance damages the economy and weakens the baht. Money over moral outrage.

And are still being slaughtered.

Thailand made the right decision in this vote.

U.N. General Assembly in historic vote denounces Russia over Ukraine invasion

UNITED NATIONS, March 2 (Reuters) – The United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday overwhelmingly voted to reprimand Russia for invading Ukraine and demanded that Moscow stop fighting and withdraw its military forces, an action that aims to diplomatically isolate Russia at the world body.

The resolution, supported by 141 of the assembly’s 193 members, passed in a rare emergency session called by the U.N. Security Council while Ukrainian forces battled to defend the port of Kherson in the face of air strikes and a devastating bombardment that forced hundreds of thousands of people to flee.

The text of the resolution deplores Russia’s “aggression against Ukraine.” The last time the Security Council convened an emergency session of the General Assembly was in 1982, according to the U.N. website.

About the only real action most anyone can take while here in Thailand is to make a humanitarian contribution to one of the Red Cross agencies or other such organizations.

The ridge is small on which the Thai government is walking. I believe they watch rather what China is doing here but take the risk to upset 145 UN members which condemned Russia.

Fact is : any neutral position is in favour of Putins aggression and no other rectifying arguments can be allowed here.

So, if Thailand spoke out against Putin and Russia, do you think that Russia would withdraw from Ukraine and call the whole thing off ?

No ... on the other hand the condemnation of the EU nations, the UN nations, even recognized neutral nations, such as Sweden, Finland, Switzerland demonstrates wholesale condemnation of the Russian invasion. Will, that alone make a big difference? No, but followed up with military/humanitarian support will.

I have never seen it any different to be honest, there's us, then there's them.

Now that Putin can't trade with us anymore (the Western civilized world), he's going to focus on trading with them (the emerging nations, emerging market) instead.

We see the World with our Western views, views which do not apply:

- South of the Mediterranean sea.

- South of the Equator.

- East of Poland.

- East of the Bosphorus.

Now that the situation in these societies are evolving and emerging markets are thriving, Putin is going to reinforce Russia's ties to the rest of the unsanctioned World where his money will be welcomed and "ethics" are wholly different.

Soon putin will be strangled by his guards or will have some accident, just remember my words

Your self-righteousness is rather embarrassing.  Take a break - I think the excessive negativity in online forums can really be bad for one's mental health.

what prayut said is one thing but still Members of the United Nations General Assembly, including Thailand, voted to reprimand Russia for invading Ukraine and demanded that Moscow stop fighting and withdraw its military forces

How ignorant this government.

Russia startest a war. How can you stay neutral.

Folks, you should have listened to the UN, Yesterday.

Just another Big face lose for the Thai government.

Luckily I am Not Thai.

Will Thailand be 'neutral' when/if China does the exact same thing to Thailand if Russia is successful? Wrong is wrong no matter if it affects you directly or not. Grow a sack.

There's more...........the Ukraine Embassy.

"The Embassy of Ukraine in the Kingdom of Thailand opened two special accounts in Thai baht for supporting Ukraine and saving lives. Each donation matters!"

Also on their facebook page it gives a link to verified info with live updates on the situation there.

I understand Thailand's traditional stance in trying to keep competing global powers from involving ethnocentric Thailand but ... there is a negative cost to Thailand in not joining with the overwhelming number of global citizens condemning the clearly wrongful action of the unilateral Russian invasion of Ukraine. As regards the commercial balance ... an argument can be made for Thailand benefitting (or at least not costing) from condemning the Russian invasion. To stand with Russia reinforces the view that Thailand remains under military (OK, authoritarian leaning) government.

China doesn't need/want aggression to take over another country.

How can Thailand be neutral about Russia's unjustified, unprovoked, murderous invasion of Ukraine. The government's attitude is a disgrace and brings great shame to the people of Thailand.

On the fence again, same as the war ( It is a war ) in Myanmar. Thailand cannot even sort out it's ongoing war in the South of Thailand. Too many armchar Generals in charge, probably none have even seen action.

In this case, being neutral amounts to an admission of total moral bankruptcy a stunning lack of a functioning democracy, ethics and support for humanity. And a great deal of cowardice. As if Prayuth and his band of goons has not already brought enough shame to the people.

Thailand proudly joins, Iran, Syria, North Korea, China and Israel.

There we see it, Thailand will not do or say anything when they see horrendous international law violations, outrageous immoral actions and behaviour and unspeakable international political actions.

Not only Thailand, but most of the world refuses to speak out against America and it's Nato allies.

Interesting.

Same stance with the mass murderers in Myanmar.

Lousy  government with no scruples to speak of.

Thailand is a military government who took power away from s Democratic government that was voted by the people they are no better than the Russian dictatorship or the Chinese dictatorship they are all in bed together

Does Thailand really want to be taken seriously on the international stage?

It should be treated as a pariah with steep consequences, until full democracy is restored.

While Don takes a "neutral stance", Thailand's ambassador to the UN yesterday voted "yes" in favor of a resolution to condemn Russia's attack on Ukraine. Go figure.

When one day Thailand's big bosom buddy from the north decides they need to expand into Southeast Asia in what they (just like Russia) may perhaps cynically term as a "defensive attack", I hope that the rest of the world likewise will maintain a "neutral stance".

Thailand needs to do what western media is telling people to do.  We need to urge Thailand to virtue signal for Ukraine!

What I love most about Ukraine is their western led coup that took place and how Ukraine loves to lobby missiles to their people in Donbass!  Such a great country that has 0 corruption and just because they are one of the only former USSR republics that ended up more poor after leaving the USSR doesn't make them bad!

They don’t want to say anything that would go against what China is saying amazing Thailand TIT

The Thai Government wants to play Jelly Fish while the most "neutral" country in the world (Switzerland) has taken a firm stance against this war?

I never realized what invertebrates they were. ????

You could pretty much guarantee that the moral vacuum that calls itself “Government” here would not do the right thing.

It’s down to those of us with businesses here to lead the way.  Russian citizens are no longer welcome in my businesses in Chiang Rai.

We’ll review that as time goes by.

Were sanctions imposed on the US as they have been on Russia, and the Iraq and Afghanistan wars were not done alone by the US, as they were based upon terrorism removal as well...try again. Russia's attack is about reconfiguring Europe and re-uniting the former USSR.....
