Does Anyone Think That Putin Is Trying To Provoke A Nuclear War

 

I have recently become more and more alarmed at Putin’s increasingly irrational, unpredictable, and unacceptable behaviour. Looking back to before the invasion, he spent months issuing multiple denials that he had any intention of invading Ukraine, whilst amassing an estimated 200,000 troops on their border. We now know that those many denials were all deliberate lies.

 

I harbour a real fear that because the invasion is not going anywhere near to plan, he is now, by  ignoring all normal conventions of war, including refusing to uphold a humanitarian escape route cease fire, trying to provoke the western alliance into an action that will, in his mind, justify using a nuclear weapon.

 

He seems increasingly unstable, bitter, and completely devoid of any humanity, either for the Ukrainian population, or for the thousands of young Russian conscripts that are being killed. He actually seems to be without that most basic and essential of human traits, a conscience, which makes any human being very dangerous indeed.

 

It is now clear that the invasion was always going to go ahead, and all the false flag fabrications were merely an attempt to offer some form of justification for when it did. This was all drip fed to the population of Russia through the state controlled TV channel, with only a small percentage of the younger generation accessing the truth through other media outlets.

 

It is difficult for most of us to understand how powerful the indoctrination of the Russian population by state media really is. State TV showed a Russian soldier supposedly being welcomed and embraced by Ukrainian citizens; nothing could be further removed from the truth, but nothing is beyond their powers of fabrication.

 

A young woman sheltering in a basement with her baby, while bombs rained down, called her mother who is in Moscow; her mother refused to believe her, because state TV said it wasn’t happening.

 

Although the Ukrainian military and civilians have suffered terrible losses, the invasion has not gone to plan for Putin. I do not speak or understand Russian, but having watched countless statements from Putin over the years, I can see a seismic change in his facial expressions and tone of voice. He is now palpably angry, incensed almost, every time he has delivered a statement in the last couple of weeks.

 

What started as a military invasion has suddenly, and I suspect increasingly desperately, turned into the indiscriminate slaughtering of innocent civilians. Residential homes, churches, schools, and even hospitals have been targeted with long range shelling, cruise missiles, cluster munitions and vacuum bombs.

 

The scale of the humanitarian disaster is unprecedented in modern times, and the effects will reverberate throughout Europe for many decades; massive kudos to Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Moldova and Romania, for the assistance that their governments and their ordinary citizens are giving to the refugees ……. PRAY FOR PEACE ????????✌️????

Putin do not want a nuclear war, he has got a brainstroke but not so big, as he will go to nuclear war. Everybody knows there is no winners if the biggest nuclear powers make war with nuclear weapens.

What he is doing now, is testing Nato, EU and USA to see if they are to much afraid of war.

There is no doubt Putin has zar or sovjet dreams, he wants to make Russia big again.

If he feel weaknes from the west, he is ready to go on to the small baltic countries.

You raise a very worrying scenario; I was talking to a friend in the UK yesterday, and we were both wondering if he has been diagnosed with a terminal illness, causing him to not really care much about any future armageddon.

I don't think Putin CARES. That's what makes him so dangerous. Even Nikita Khrushchev blinked when confronted by the possibility of nuclear war. The Ex-KGB Putin is basically existing in a criminal universe where morality is turned on its head. That's the definition of sociopath.

I think he is willing to use tactical nukes in Ukraine, yes, as a last resort if / when he fully fails to meet his objectives. But better for him if people just believe he is willing to as that gives him much more leverage. People are correctly concerned about totally backing him against a wall. Always give him space to lose while declaring victory. Angry wounded bear BEWARE!

Agree.  For now, Putin only mentions nukes as leverage to scare other countries into letting him do as he pleases.  He may be crazy, but he's not stupid.  He won't deploy nukes knowing that he would be incinerated in a manner of minutes.  But if he's cornered with no other options, he may just launch some nukes because at that point, he simply won't care.

If this continues to escalate, nuclear weapons are a definite possibility.   First, there will be biological or chemical weapons.

The simplest way out is for Putin to be taken out, Russia retreat and blame Putin nothing to do with them guv, sanctions get reduced quickly, Russia pay for all the damage and deaths caused, world goes back to near normal

Putin is backed into a corner and must not lose or he is a dead man. He has nothing to lose and we know what authoritarian would be dictators will do when they see they have lost. Putin will press the button rather than lose because he has the psychosis common to fascists. Either sanity will prevail in Russia or we will again experience the scourge of uncontrolled machiavellianism.

Agree with everything you say. The fact that Putin is recruiting mercenaries from Africa and Syria, shows how unexpectedly (to him) badly his invasion force are doing. Many are young conscripts who believed they were going on a training exercise, not going to fight well trained, highly motivated Ukrainian soldiers.

 

His propaganda machine is already creating fake pretexts for using chemical or biological weapons, which is only one step away from smaller tactical nuclear weapons. His face looks puffed up, probably from steroids, which is a huge concern; very dark days indeed for the world.

There is no point in talking to Putin. He can't win against Ukraine but he can destroy the country. So that's what he's doing. Putin won't fall by a people's protest movement. They are too good at propaganda. The best hope is an internal coup.

As long as there are nukes around there is always the latent danger that at some time in the future they will be used. And there are still some 30'000 warheads or even more around I think.

 

Fortunately - as far as I know - there is no such thing as one big red button that only needs to be pressed and off it goes. There are a number of security mechanismns that not only one being can provoke a nuclear holocaust - and do you remember the US general that instructed his direct subordinates to call him back first (against the protocol) if a certain former president would instruct to fire out of a possible confusion in his head or elsewhere ? But I do not know how it would work in North Korea.

 

But in Russia I suspect they have something to make it at least a little bit secure. Another scenario that I am afraid of even more is the one that is very authentically shown in the scary and very credible movie "13 Monkeys". To set free a superdeadly virus needs only one insane person if he can get hold of the staff.
