GREAT NEWS! TEST all the red buses, worker carrying trucks for starters, they are TERRIBLE, have to hold my breath so many times when stuck behind them.

Please fix them all!

Director-General Attapol Charoenchansa advised owners to maintain the engines of their vehicles regularly, to make sure… blah blah

Words gone with the polluted wind.

Don't worry, like all clampdowns it will be forgotten in a few days.

Sadly, this is too true.  Like the "clampdowns" on motorcycles with loud, illegal exhaust pipes.  Announce a clampdown for PR purposes, man a few checkpoints for a few days, then drop it.

Is it so difficult to measure the exhaust during the annual checkup of the car?
If it exceeds the limit, then simply no renewal of the license, car confiscated and send for scrapping.
Like most "clampdowns", indeed, this is another farce.

Can you please stop talking sense here!

You must be new in Thailand, coming up with a simple solution is just not done over here.

We all know there is a way around everything here if you can afford it.

No mention of the economy? Food, shelter and clothing and maybe children's education . Then worry about all the niceties of life.

The smoke will die down when the dinosaurs are replaced with young and progressive leaders, who care about the health, welfare and well being of the nation, and the environment. The current crop do not have any initiative, nor any ideas. Dinosaurs are cursed with small brains.

Sir, you insult dinosaurs.

A slug has more brains than this lot put together.

Must be around the 50th clampdown this decade.. and that's being conservative.

Yes, but like most girlfriends, this one is different.

4 organisations involved. Gotta be a winner.

Not sure why TAT wasn't mentioned.

Unless the dinosaur's spawn inherit the mantles of power. The gerontocracy hands off to the 50yos and the system self perpetuates.

Asia and indeed the world getting more authoritarian not less.

Enjoy what's left of your freedom while you can.

would love to see them do a crack down on all the unroadworthy cars/trucks/bikes on the road not just the exhaust systems, I have seen pick ups with the sides tied together because they are rusted out and no longer attached to the beds, when they do any turn at all the sides swing out away from the bed. That many unroadworthy vehicles on the road that just makes it all the more dangerous especially combined with the way many thai drivers/riders think/drive, they need to do more than just check exhausts but that would require the police to actually do what they are paid for

launched a clampdown today

But just today. Tomorrow and next week and the rest of the year you can belch out as much black smoke as you want again.

It must have been said already but those government, red, Mercedes buses some of the worst offenders.

Were ready for the scrapheap forty years ago.

Most of which were converted to NGV.

It is all important. And all of it is either being ignored or sabotaged. Clowns. Every last one of the leaders.

I believe those are painted blue and white.

Those also but they weren't conversions.  The vast majority of buses in Bangkok have been LPG/NGV-fuelled for years now.
