Surprise surprise. Honda will also launch the e:N1 EV as an import model this March that you can buy. Till now it was only available with a lease.

The e:N1 import model is similar to the Chinese e:NS1, made by Dongfeng Honda. The car is based on the HRV platform. A few things why this Honda will not resonate with some buyers: it uses a NMC instead of LFP battery. And it's charging speed is not on par with peers - 78 kw. I expect the price to be between 1 - 1.1 M baht, based on the Chinese top model and with an uptick of 50% of an import model. Maybe they will ask more, because it is a Honda and not a Chinese brand.

Honda is a little bit late to the party. Can't see much market share or sales for it

According to car250.com Mazda will launch an EV in Thailand, the Mazda 6e. In China this car is known as the EZ6, however with a smaller standard range battery [68kwh]. The car is based on a previous iteration of the Changan Deepal L07. It is a sedan the size of a BYD Seal.

On the looks it is a very lovely car and has a bigger boot space than the Seal. But I'm afraid the price will not be competitive to the Seal with discount. Based on the Chinese EZ6 topmodel standard range [68kwh battery] and an uptick of 50% of an import model, I expect the Thai price to be around 1.3 M baht. This is the price of the Thai Deepal L07. A Seal Dynamic with discount is now 1 M baht.

You said it already. Based on a previous iteration of the Deepal so it's old technology already. Who, except hardcore Mazda fans, will buy it? Not to mention that in my opinion Mazda cars have always been overpriced

Spotted this car yesterday in Pattaya. Based on the logo behind the black tape sticker I'd say it's a Haval ? Any ideas?

Edit: I've done a Google lens search and it's obviously the new BYD Atto 2. I wasn't aware the BYD adjusted it's rear logo from build your dreams to just BYD hence I thought from the length of the sticker it could be Haval.

BYD dropped the "Build Your Dreams" badging maybe 18 months ago, shortly after they entered the UK. The UK market hated it and it got a lot of ridicule. Good on them for listening and for quickly dropping it. It has been "BYD" ever since.

BYD dropped it starting for 2024 models.  My 2023 Atto I bought new in late Oct 2023 still had the Build Your Dreams...and it hadn't been setting around for sale...it was fresh off the BYD boat from  China to Thailand.

EV’s ….. the Betamax of the twenty first century.

EV's ... No

The chemistry make up of the batteries, yes, will progress, better, smaller, lighter, charge faster, go further.

But does that mean, those having LFP batteries will be unusable, because all thing concern how used and or charged is different ... No again.

No vendors supplying electric is going to change the plugs types in use now.  They'll still be useable.  Maybe more options, maybe an adaptor, but not obsolete.

There's at least a 5-10 year window, before any new mass produced battery will take over the industry.

Oh, no, Joe, not another one I hope; surely you haven’t fallen for the biggest consumer con-trick of the twenty first century, and bought an EV ¯\_()_/¯

Latest Michael Dunne's newsletter, as copied by youtubers like Electric Viking:

BYD: So Damn Good – But Not Invincible. What Warren Buffett Might Be Thinking

https://newsletter.dunneinsights.com/p/byd-so-damn-good-but-not-invincible

Not the main conclusion of Dunne's newsletter, he refers to the hidden debt of BYD, which to him is manageable. However GMT Research's study sees it as an addiction. At the end of the day, BYD like CATL and Huawei are showcase entities for the CCP which will be regarded as too big to fail.

Curious as to why you think Betamax vs VHS is analogous to ICE vs EV. In the case of the former, market demand of more movies, never movies etc determined which format would win out. With vehicles, it’s a piece of equipment that gets you from point A to B in the best level of comfort at the best value. Based on this, I would suggest that an ICE is the better Betamax equivalent.

I am in a unique position of having both an ICE and EV in the same vehicle ie a PHEV. 99% of my regular driving is done in EV mode. Why? Because it’s a superior driving experience, more economical and I don’t waste time filling up in a petrol station.

If you want to come on here to debate the virtues of both, you are very welcome. Everyone welcomes a different point of view but it should be an educated one with some basis of facts or logic. A statement such as yours without any supporting argument lowers your credibility in spite of your username.

Betamax was a much better machine, but Sony had a lock on production. VHS was licensed to anyone that wanted to build them, so they became much cheaper than Beta quickly and Beta sales plummeted. Once the user base shrinks, new tapes become less profitable.

Eloquent?

The statement lacked any support or citation. So neither articulate nor persuasive and therefore definitely not “Eloquent”

Pilgrim?

Maybe if he continues his wanderings to another place

Please point out exactly where I made any claim to the statement being articulate, persuasive or eloquent; that notwithstanding, please explain how the comment was inarticulate.

Does anyone have seen or heard about tow bars for trailers on any of the more budget like EVs? I know that the Thai don't use trailers that much, but maybe some rural area guy would have this? Most likely the BYD shark would have this option, but even the Riddara pickup would still be at the very upper end of my budget. Therefore the most reasonable option for me would be some Neta, Dolphin or so with a tow bar and a trailer which I would bring from europe.

Neta V group on FB has had a few members install towbars.
