And I see the Toyota BZ4X is once again being warmly received by Thais with 1 sold in June and 2 in October.  Let's keep our fingers crossed that Toyota sells a few in December and reach 5 sales for the year.  😅

How could you pass Ventilation Seat? 🤣

If  you want more power the Long Range is very good, the 170PS is just borderline if you take highway often. 245PS that is a LOT better.

S5 has a bit more power than our ZS, which is more than enough already.  S5's extra power must be for the extra 140 kg.  Don't need to get to 90 kph any faster than 8 secs, which they both do :coffee1:

Long range, nicer range, but we can't make it pass 3+ hrs without stopping anyway.  Really don't want to pay that much to get from A to B.  I'm still too practical when it comes to vehicles.

The Jaecoo 5 has just launched in Australia too for around 770,000 baht without any subsidies for the top spec.

However I noticed the Australian version has 7 airbags whereas the Thai version has only 6.

It hasn't been tested yet, but Jaecoo are expecting a 5 star safety rating from ANCAP.

Of course, many brands like to advertise their 5 star Western safety ratings while selling a different "less safe" version in Thailand.

Caveat emptor.

I (we) find the ventalated seats great when needed.

Appears Jaecoo is having some major car delivery problems/delays.

Below is a snapshot from the Omoda Jaecoo Facebook page.   Since they are having problems in getting enough cars to dealerships to fill orders the company is allowing customers to pickup their cars "at the seaport" "without a pre-delivery inspection if the customer has completed the full payment process and brings key documents from their dealership.

There is also concern in the comments as to whether the price will remain the same due to delayed delivery.  Additionally, when reviewing the many comments on the FB page it reveals quite a few people who have already received they Jaecoo car still haven't received the freebies that suppose to come with the car like upgraded carpet, Vehicle to Load adapter, window tinting, etc.

This autolife 25 Dec 2025 article on subject also exists but does not translate....translation gives conflicting info/dates IMO.  The Omoda Jaecoo FB page seems to provide clearer info

We had to wait 5 months for delivery of our MG ZS in 2022 (May - Oct).   Which was fine, as gave me time to deep dive research our choice.  Still happy with ZS, and if changing, would simply buy the S5, which is the ZS replacement.   Actually crossed my mind this week, but wife not that big on the idea.

Only thing that impressed her, was the electric hatchback, and not willing to spend few 100k THB for :cheesy:

She wants the IM6 ... nah, as I can think of better things to spend about 1M on :w00t:

So, here’s a short review of the Riddara RD6 Econ and the Riddara RD6 AWD in Thailand by a Thai in English !!

BYD Mukdahan too busy they said to do the extended warranty so drove there this morning, manager said sorry and did it.

I asked about check the tire with a little cut, they said OK, BUT, if I need new Michelle tyre they have to order from overseas.

What type of BS is this for the SL7?

BYD has extended the Lifetime Battery Warranty Promotion again....now extended until 31 Jan 2026.   See Rever Automotive weblink at bottom which appear on their website around 26 Dec 2025.   Apparently they needed to extended the current promotion for various reasons that ends 31 Dec 2025.

From looking at Facebook posts a lots of people are still having problems in getting a timely appointment at a BYD dealership to have the battery inspection accomplished.  While a person can now go to a dealership and pay Bt5,000 for the warranty until the required physical inspection of the EV/battery is accomplished the warranty can not be finalized...that is, approved or disapproved.  If disapproved the person is refunded the Bt5,000).

Now I did see one, maybe two FB posts, who got the battery payment "and inspection" accomplished early in Dec and also got final approval from Rever within a week (i.e., got both the Rever email asking the customer to confirm the order terms & conditions and then the 2nd email confirming final approval).   Expect these folks got lucky....hit the timing gates just right before thousands of BYD vehicle owners started flooding BYD dealerships with requests to purchase the battery lifetime warranty.

In my trek to get the battery warranty starting back in early December very shortly after HQ BYD announced the lifetime battery warranty during the Motor Expo 2025 the dealerships had to await guidance/instructions from HQ BYD (which is Rever Automotive for Thailand) before the dealerships could accept any Bt5K payment or accomplish the required accompanying vehicle/battery inspection).

In early December I went to three different dealerships here in Bangkok (to include the one I bought my BYD vehicle at) trying to buy the warranty....but all three couldn't help as they said they were still awaiting guidance/instructions/forms from Rever.  Two promised to call me once they get guidance and fortunately the dealership that I bought my BYD vehicle at made me an appointment for Christmas Day as that's the earliest open slot for any type of service in hopes they would have firm guidance from Rever by then to accept and process the battery warranty payment and inspection.  Well, fortunately one of those two other dealerships called me several days later with an earlier appointment which I took, but the other dealership never called me as of today/27 Dec.

Anyway, I paid for the Bt5000 and also had the inspection accomplished 13 Dec....the dealership mechanic & customer service rep said everything looked fine....and within 3 "business" day I'll get an email from Rever asking me to read & approve the terms and conditions of the warranty by clicking an icon/link within the email (just like how the most recent promotion says).  However, I didn't get that Rever email until 23 Dec (7 business days or 10 calendar days later).

I clicked the icon within that email accepting the warranty terms & conditions and then below popup message appeared confirming my order and saying within 15 business days (which will be at least 21 calendar days considering weekends & holidays) will provide me with results (i.e., approval or disapproval).     As of this post/27 Dec I haven't got that email, but Rever has to around mid January 2026 to meet their 15 business days deadline.  Just hope it's not late like their response that was suppose to come within 3 business days but took around 7 business days.  Time will tell.

Response when clicking icon with Rever email asking a person to confirm warranty terms & conditions.

Latest BYD Lifetime Battery Warranty Promotion....appears on the Rever website around 26 Dec 2025.

it seems i was lucky with my sl7 awd. i submitted all the required documents and paid 5k. the staff told me that no further inspection was necessary. the whole process took about 30 min. ... just a few days later, i received the confirmation (email) for the lifetime warranty ...

It sounds like you did "not" receive the 1st email from Rever asking you to confirm terms & conditions by clicking an icon within that email.....and then that gave a popup message saying thanks and within 15 business days they will provide final approval/disapproval?

Sounds like you did "not" have to go thru/await the 1st email; instead, you went right from the payment/inspection to the final approval/2nd email from Rever.

Maybe how fast the process works "after the payment & inspection" depends on the model of the car, year of the car, how many kilometers the car has accumulated, dealership involvement, maybe luck,  etc.

Bro, you got confused, this is correct.

This is not a BEV (Battery EV), this pick-up is a REEV (Range Extender EV) and the world's first REEV Pickup.

The Nissan Kicks is another very good REEV car that's been around for a while.

REEV means the Gasoline engine is just a generator in the car, it produces electricity to charge the battery. the combustion engine will not drive the car like in other Hybrid cars.

I personally think this is great from engineering standpoint, much better experience compared to PHEV.

I love this design, and it has many benefits, just not perfect like BEV, still great for many applications and use.

- The engine will be always running at the optimum RPM, producing the most torque using the least gasoline.

- The engine only needs to run when needed, you can still enjoy the silence of having your BEV in a shopping mall parking lot without polluting.

- The driving experience is same as BEV, smooth and precise.

- There is no gears or transmission, and the Fluid changes will be cheaper than a Hybrid car.

You're correct, it's REEV.

But then so strange or stupid about the window sticker with the specs. Why not mention the specs of the whole system (engine and electric motor+battery)

Whoops...corrected Motor Expo 2025 numbers for BYD.  Guess the BYD Motor Expo folks tallying-up bookings can't count too well.  See below thaiautonews article which also talks EV3.0/EV3.5 subsidy changes for some BYD models.

https://www.thaiautonews.net/byd-extending-lifetime-battery-warranty/

The gal at MG suggest if thinking about buying, so it soon, as govt subsidy will shrink.   And she wasn't trying the 'pressure sales' routine.

If not for the ฿240k incentive MG gave in early 2022, we would not have bought our ZS, as very happy with the ICE version.  EV version a bit overpriced back then anyway, since they had no competition, till BYD arrived.

Based on above the only "BIG" impact will be for EVs not imported from a country that does not have a 0% import/customs duty due to Free Trade Agreement (FTA)....countries like Japan, EU countries, US, etc.  Since the great majority of EVs sold in Thailand are imported from/made in China a 0% import/customs tax applies in 2026 just like in 2025 and before under the Thailand-China FTA...it will be business as usual.

However, for those countries like Japan, EU countries, etc., that do not have an EV 0% FTA with Thailand then EV import taxes will return to much higher rates unless they signed-up to EV3.5 provisions....some did sign-up; some didn't.   So, the Import Duties changes will give China a bigger advantage over some other countries like Japan....of course Japanese vehicle manufacturers like Toyota, Honda, Isuzu, Nissan, etc., really don't care about building EVs....they are committed to ICE and HEV.

The Excise tax of 2% vs 8% remains the same under EV3.5 in 2026-27 just as under EV3.0 for 2025 and before.  So, this is not a player.

So, the only significant change for "all" EV vehicle manufacturers will be in subsidies for those companies "that didn't signup with EV3.5 provisions."   (note: as mentioned some "not-made-in-China" manufacturers will be whacked with return of higher import duties).    Generally that's going to be around a Bt25K subsidy reduction.  In the overall price of an EV say costing Bt600K that equates to around a 4% increase....for a Bt1.0M EV that equates to around 2.5%.   And I expect EV manufacturers could make such an increase magically disappear with a promotion....a price reduction they had been holding in reserve just for EV3.5 2026 purposes.

It's going to be interesting to see 2026 marketing and pricing strategy.   And for the first few months of 2026 I think pricing will remain stable with some companies increasing prices by Bt25K-40K but starting around March any increases will disappear with new promotions with the Motor Show 2026 in 25 Mar -  5 Apr 2026.   Plus I figure the continuing "low intensity" price war in China will continue to keep a lid on EV prices in Thailand by offsetting reduced subsidies under EV3.5 for 2026-27.    But hey, opinions are like you know what---everyone has one.

An update on our BYD Dolphin order.

On Sunday we got a call asking us to come in to the showroom, they wanted to discuss the price.

I thought that was ominous, they said the promotion ends 31st December and they don’t know what’s happening in January, they suggested it could go back to 569k from 449k.

Additionally, no white models available. They had brought a black and a grey one to the showroom and offered us either of those for delivery on 30th December.

My daughter chose the grey one.

I would have liked to have bought the more powerful extended range but I can’t justify the price increase, I think it’s another 120k, but my daughter is perfectly happy with this one in any case.

I'm away till 1st January (Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet and Mae Phrik) so I hope she does a proper inspection on collection.

I never thought I would hear of the day a "white" model of any car would not be readily available since about half of the vehicles on Thailand roads are white.  White is like the national car color for Thailand.  😃

It's very interesting in how EV3.0 closure is impacting some end-of-year promotion pricing.   There is a BIG push among some EV manufacturers to "complete" a sale "payment-wise" by 31 Dec 2025 to ensure the EV can complete DLT registration by 31 Jan 2026; otherwise, the vehicle manufacturer will not receive the higher EV3.0 subsidy ....will get the lower EV3.5 subsidy instead.

A prime example is the Omada-Jaecoo EV delivery issue ongoing right now where the company is not able to delivery EVs from seaport to dealerships in time for all orders to complete sale by 31 Dec 2025 with ensuring registration by 31 Jan 2026.   Apparently the lack of enough vehicle carriers from seaport to dealerships is the main problem combined with the holidays down period (and probably Omada-Jaecoo being overwhelmed with more orders than planned/expected).

So Omada-Jaecoo is asking customers to complete payment by 31 Dec 2025 via approved financing or cash payment "AND" come pickup their EV at the seaport in Chonburi province between 28-30 Dec 2025.  And apparently for those who were financing with little or no down payment Jaecoo is recommending the customer make at least a Bt100K down payment immediately which will ensure immediate financing approval due to some special deal between Jaecoo and finance companies/banks.

Been quite a few stories regarding this issue....and Omada-Jaecoo customers are lighting-up Facebook pages asking the company if the price they booked at over the last few weeks is going to be honored or is it going to increase by Bt40K if financing can not be approved by 31 Dec 2025, etc.  And many who received their Omada-Jaecoo vehicle over the past few months are complaining about still not receiving some of the freebies they were suppose to get like upgraded carpet, vehicle to load adapter, window tinting, etc.   Seems Omada-Jaecoo sales success over the past few months has overwhelmed the company is some ways.

This weblink gives a pretty good description in English of the current issue:

you should ask this question TAT, i think they're very experienced with numbers ... :cheesy:

I notice MG's promotion page is a bit empty, and no vehicles listed, as I was curious about the ZS EV pricing and if still at 499k, and if any left.

Guessing they are reassessing the 2026 pricing.

My daughter got her Dolphin Std Range, what a nice drive it is. It feels quick even though it's only 90hp.

It has to go back for window film next week, I'll check out the new pricing .

I expect January thru mid March to be lacking in any good promotions as the various vehicle brands try to figure out what pricing their competitors will roll-out. Kinda like poker players trying to figure out what hand the guy across the table has.

Plus, I expect in January the dealerships will be working hard in trying to complete sales from end of year bookings, Motor Expo 2025, etc., and probably wouldn't dare offer a better price than offered in Dec 2025 in fear of booking cancellations.

I really don't expect to see any good promotions until mid March....just before the Motor Show 2026 which runs 25 Mar - 5 Apr.

image.png

I think the sales from last year have all been completed, the registrations haven't, but this is an admin task and less interest to dealership managers who are focused on sales.

They are faced with sales falling off a cliff until they come up with some promotion and the pressure on importers from dealers will be relentless.

I expect prices to firm up by about 20,000 baht, that could mean removing the wallbox charger or window film etc, but I think we will see some promotion before February, possibly a bit of panic when they realise sales have all but stopped.

Incidentally, if anyone wants a charger head with wire attached, I have one that I bought from AliExpress to use as a VTOL cable wired directly into ATS. It doesn't have the pin needed for VTOL so it's new and unused.
