vandeventer
Instead of delaying the 300 baht land-entry fee, why don't you attach 300 baht to every little elephant you give out? It would be like saying the first drink is on me.

Popular Post Bangkok Barry
“The Cabinet would look at the suitability before considering the collection because the money must be used to do other things as well." What does this mean? I was under the impression that the tax was supposed to be used to enhance the tourist experience and provide some kind of unspecified medical insurance. Popular Post Canadian Snowbird
Guess I won't be part of the 20 million they're expecting by the 4th quarter if they don't soon get rid of the Thailand pass system and the added covid insurance requirement, because I won't be making any plans to return until they are gone.

So many many people are saying..... it is getting a bit tiresome really as if the Thai authorities are concerned over these odd noises of foot stamping from afar. As noted many are quite prepared to take on the limited restrictions we have now.... even they will be gone, in their own time.

newnative
The wildest, most pie-in-the-sky predictions I've seen for international tourists for this entire year were in the 10 million range. For him to be thinking 20 million in the 4th quarter shows what a poor job he is doing with managing things and making important decisions. If he believes 20 million international tourists are coming in the 4th quarter, that very wrong information will likely mean bad decisions on both tourism and other things related to tourism. To make good decisions you need to at least start with good, accurate information.

Can someone explain to me how this will affect my proposed trip to UK in August? I am an expat & every year (for the previous 15) got a re-entry permit to return after visiting my family. Do I need some form of Holiday Insurance to return or is my 800K in the bank enough?

There is no transparency with this proposed tax, that's why they want it so can buy more toys for the army, navy etc It's just the latest gravy train idea.
Popular Post spidermike007
They quoted a high number on day one. How about since then? What are the daily arrivals now? 4th quarter arrivals are more likely to be in the range of 600,000 to 800,000 total. Expect no more than 200,000 arrivals a month, for the next couple of years. They slaughtered the Golden goose. It is not waking up anytime soon.
Popular Post GoRover
Has it dawned on them (though I very much doubt it)? Take for example a family, mother, father and 2 children in Malaysia or Cambodia or Laos or Myanmar. They wish to have a short holiday in Thailand and want to travel there by land, but that is going to cost them 1,200 BHT just to enter. With the introduction of this fee there will be a lot of people changing their plans and going elsewhere, or just holidaying in their own country.

Popular Post ikke1959
Collect it and let it be public controlled.... How many tourists came, paid and where is the money going...Ask embassies to take place in the commitee, publish the results and everybody will see there is no pocket money... But.. as we all know... It would never happen and the money will disappear.... Edited May 4, 2022 by ikke1959 5
