French Tourist Killed While Crossing Road

AYUTTHAYA (TNA) – A French woman succumbed to her wound after being hit by a car while she was crossing Rojana Road late Wednesday night.

 

Camille J., 36, died while being rushed to a hospital from the crash site.

She was hit and severely injured by a car driven by a 43-year-old man identified as Sathapana. He said he was driving from his office and passing a bridge without seeing from a distance the woman who was pushing a bicycle across the road.

French tourist killed after being directly hit by speeding car at Ayutthaya intersection

Ayutthaya – A French tourist on a bicycle was tragically killed after being directly hit by a speeding car at an intersection in Ayutthaya on Wednesday evening, May 25th.

 

Ayutthaya provincial police, along with rescue officers and volunteers, rushed to the scene around 9:00 PM. after being alerted of the incident in which the foreign tourist was hit by a sedan and was seriously injured at the Khlong Makham Rieng intersection in Mueng district.

Upon arrival, a wrecked rental bicycle was found lying on the road and a white sedan with a broken windshield was found nearby. The 26-year-old injured woman, identified as Camellia (last name withheld by TPN media), was found heavily bleeding with severe wounds and broken arms and legs. She was, unfortunately, pronounced dead shortly afterward.

 

A 42-year-old car driver, whose name was withheld by law enforcement and who was still in shock, told police that he was on the way home when he noticed a green light for going straight and a red light for turning right. He then drove straight at a high speed at the same time that two female foreign tourists were biking into the middle of the intersection. He couldn’t brake in time, so the car directly crashed into one of the bikers. He was sorry about the incident and stated he would like to apologize to the family of the deceased.

He states he had a green light for going straight ahead and he proceeded to do so. Does that mean the lady cyclists rode out into the road when they should not have?

But he admitted he was travelling at a high speed, so he must share in the culpability. I wonder what a high speed is in his mind?

 

I feel very sorry for the deceased, what a disaster for a holiday.

There you have it, since when has it been allowed to speed at a junction? in any civilised country he would have been arrested on the spot, why is there no mention of the type of car other than a white sedan maybe he is also a Hi-So

You know that's not going to happen but he may have to pay a fine. Sometimes I wonder why I am the only one stopping for people at the crosswalk. What good are they if nobody stops, just another death trap.

I don’t own any type of transportation currently. I have never owned a car in my 16 years here, but have owned a 650cc Ninja , and  a bunch of different scooters over that time frame as well. These days I walk everywhere for the exercise. I can only say that you need to have eyes in the back of your head and always walk against traffic , or it’s only a matter of time before someone will run you over from behind. Whenever I am out in the zebra crossings I am always extra alert as they tend to speed up wether it’s a motorbike , or car when they see you crossing. They cannot wait those extra 3 seconds for you to cross. So a pedestrians life has less than 3 seconds value vs showing any signs of driving with some sort of caution, let alone any responsibility for their actions….just plain sad. RIP Miss. I have a daughter and her Father must be heartbroken.

I was dumb enough to believe cars rode on only one side here.  Sidewalks not roads.  Lights on after dark.  Drunk driving bad.  Helmets good.  No u-turns.  Look first.

And finally back to the tragic stories of increasing foreigners and locals killed in avoidable road accidents. One of the few positive side effects of the global covid 19 neurosis has been to put this to rest for a while. RIP young Camille.

I saw this on the news last night. He was moving fast ( speeding ) and hit her hard whereupon she flew through the air for about 10 meters.

 

The light was green for the driver.

 

Her friend said they had mistaken the red turn right filter light for the main light so they assumed it was safe to cross and walked out into the road without bothering to check further..

 

In this country spatial awareness can save your life. Don't trust to anything you haven't seen with your own eyes. Check and double check

Like you, I also stop for people in the crosswalk but I'm cringing at the same time that the driver behind me doesn't plow into me. Being on my motorbike, I'll likely be the dead one at the scene.

As a young motorcyclist in the UK, after buying my first big bike, I was told by a friend..."To drive safely you have to imagine everyone else on the road is out toget YOU".

This was great advice which has also worked well here for many years. Gave up the bikes 15 years ago for an SUV...it's safer.

As you can see from the article your request yesterday in regards to accidents and death past 20 years for " cooperation " hasn't worked,  will never work without 

EDUCATION THEN ENFORCEMENT

If you have any doubts disguise yourself rid your body guards take a walk try one of those crosswalk like the lady doctor inner city designation speed 80, no enforcement like the cop he's going 100 plus. then someone official from DLT,  see fit to place a crosswalk right in the middle of a racetrack. Let see how long you last? ????

It's said he was going fast. Bad. the witness also said both green and red lights were showing ?? Oh and mr. Prayout still no pedestrian crossing signs to be seen when driving, just lots of faded white paint everywhere if only HE was to drive anywhere alone, without a cavalcade of cars, he may understand the problem on thai roads.

IMO as with most accidents both parties were at fault. The light was green.

 

If you watch the video ( if you can find it ) it is clear he was going too fast, especially as it was night time. She flew through the air like a rag doll , high and far.

 

However, another video clearly show her and her friend walking out into the road without looking, assuming the red filter light mean red for straight on. If they had just taken the trouble to look they might have saved themselves. The victim had walked out into the road and was in the process of mounting her bike when she was hit. Had she just carried on walking she might not have been hit but stopping to mount made her a sitting duck.
