Phuket Sandbox generated at least 66 billion baht in ten months, says Phuket Governor

Phuket – The Phuket Sandbox has generated at least 66 billion baht so far while the island’s unemployment rate is decreasing, says a top Phuket official.

 

The Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew told the Phuket Express, “From July 1st, 2021 to April 30th, 2022, in total 304 days, there were 503,468 tourists visiting the Phuket Sandbox, with an average stay of eight nights. They spent an average of 55,000 baht per person.”

“The project has generated at least 66.8 billion baht to the economic system overall for Phuket.” Governor Narong added.

 

Assistant Professor Chayanon Phujaroen from the Prince of Songkla University Phuket Campus told the associated local media, “During the Covid-19 crisis from July to September 2021, the unemployment rate in Phuket was 11 percent which was about 45,000 unemployed persons.

That translate to roughly 1.95 billion US dollars in 10 months, (i had to put new batteries in my calculator) and that in Covid time with much reduced tourists traffic, it's a miracle i tell you , it's a miracle..

This guy looks about as genuine a tourist to Thailand as does most expats with wives and children that were waiting for nonsense restrictions to end to return. Guys probably still here after a year.

Didn't you know, we're all classified as tourists for life... [sometimes aliens] for the long haul expat.

Truer words were never spoken.  Yep, once I f-i-n-a-l-l-y came to that horrible realization some years ago (post-May 2014 heinous event), my expat perspective of the Land of Smiles changed forever.   Thai-ness suddenly wasn't just a cute idiosyncrasy.  Now I see it as ultra-nationalism, the rapidly growing cancer that is ruining Thailand under continuing military rule.
