  • Yes you can do it once, and next time, you go somewhere else continue from where you turned around. There is very few places I return back to more than once, but some few places is worth it.

  • So decided: papa’s days of riding from S to N are over. Patty to CR is like 3 days. So flying to CR next time. and will rent a bike. Fuel, lodging, 2000km. wear and tear, F

Give you an overview of the roads up north that you can't get from a small screen.

I use Google maps and can go to street view.

I'm sure you know if you click on the street view man it illuminates all the street view roads.

Yeah go street view and look for the holes in the road. ????

'Terrain' view is cool.

Satellite view is easy to zoom in and out on phone to. I have tried a few different map apps, but Google is best for me and easy. To make day trips on more unknown roads paved and dirt.

Additional I check with Google earth if I'm not sure roads are paved or not.

Been  tooling around in the

Mae Fa Luang district.

The Lifan is running good,

The weather has been 3-0

????and

the mountain roads just peachy.

Locals super friendly.

Nary another Farangie to be seen.

Tomorrow will be riding west of Fang.

This is great.!

Tried a loop out of Fang.

North from the U-shaped reseviour,

up the ridge and then looping around the border and back down  ...

that was he plan.

But the road was closed on the north part of the ridge.

Concertina wire, so retreat in the drizzle.

Next tried for a clockwise loop on 3037.

Some very steep and slippery road sections.

Leaf litter and algeal slime on this part.

Came to a gate at the northernmost area.

Just bamboo,

but again retreated as the weather was threatening.

Didn't want to chance getting stuck or dropping her.

More riding in the area this AM

is the plan.

Wed  nite stayed at nice little bungalow at Mae Ai.

Thur AM got up and rode the 1314 loop.
Had brecky up at the top village.
Back to resort and checked out about noon.
Thence south and 1249/1178 loop thru Arounathai and
back down to 107 at Chiang Doi.
Really nice.
Found another nice bungalow there, 400B.

Yesterday was adventuresome, bigly.

Paid B100 to ride the 3024 thru Chiang Dao park to

the Muang Kong area village in the mountains.

Smooth blacktop, little traffic.

Finding the dirt road to connect up with 1095 was tricky,

but did it.

At some point got off track and ended up

on a steep, rutted ag road.

A local man took me back to the junction

going the correct way.

He declined the B100 tip pro-offered.

Three stream x-ings, 2 being 1/2 meter deep, were exciting.

Enjoyed fair weather until reaching the concreted road.

Then downpour.

Made it down to the highway and into π for a late lunch.

Town is hopping.

From Pai to Wiang Haeng on 4014

is a 55km dirt road.

Sunday papa rode up there
had some noodle lunch
 and rode back.

Cattle and water buffalo grazing along the road,
but very little vehicular traffic.
No rain & clear vistas.
Pretty fun.

So after riding around N MHS prov
  for a couple of days,
returned to CM Tues eve.
Wed. [Sept 7]  decided to try to ride the Lifan over Doi Sutep mountain, [E —> W]
Wanted to ride down one of the dirt roads to hit Saemong loop.
That didn’t work out so well.
The road deteriorated
real bad
and papa eventually ended on a single track.
Became exhausted, over-heated.
Had to lie down for a half hour.
But ants.
Persevered & finally came out at CM.
Was pretty worried for a while.
Enduro.
