Parliament passes 1st reading of Marriage Equality Bill, paving way for same sex marriage

Thailand’s House of Representatives passed the first reading of the Move Forward party’s groundbreaking Marriage Equality Bill today (Wednesday), by 212 votes to 180 votes, with 12 abstentions and 4 no votes. The Bill, which, if it becomes law, will allow same-sex marriage.

 

A parliamentary committee has been set up to scrutinise the Bill over the next 15 days, before it is resubmitted for its second and final readings in the House of Representatives.

 

The Civil Partnership Bill proposed by the Government, will, however be used as the basis for the committee’s scrutiny, followed by the Marriage Equality Bill, raising fears of some moderation of sections of the final Bill.

 Thailand has always had many gays, ladyboys Toms, Dees and so on. Thais have brought this law on the table, Thais voted for this law. Not sure where you see western influence.

In 2018 the paliamnet approved the Civil Union Bill, several committees are set up to investigate the bIll, make amendments and so on... In 2020 still needed more time and now again a committe for 15 days??? They still don't know ????? The Marriage Bill from the MOve Forward is the best and easiest  to do..but the overnment want to push the Civl Union Bill which means more and more delays......A disgrace for the people of LHBTQ

Pass the Marriage Bill..ASAP so people can get married officially
