Would presume many people don't use the baht bus to go up there all too often.  I

personally don't have a problem paying 100 baht to get up there on rare occasion.

Yes they are there. I never used them so I don't know about prices.

But do you have a scooter driving licence? In that case, you could  rent one for a day, the price would probably be comparabe/less and would give you extra sight seeing options such as Bhuping higher up and not be tied to the drivers' schedule. Also a nice lookout point half-way before the temple, great view.
