Thailand the land of busted arsed pensioners.

How the <deleted> is it possible to work 40 years and end up with nothing?

Sitting in a 40 year old shoebox fan room.  What a way to spend your golden years.  Shameful!!!

It's called a divorce......

My problem with Thailand it is not a retirement destination for older expats IMO. Way to polluted. Just miserable after you reach a certain age if you have any kind of respiratory problems what so ever. Many other place so much better when you get old, but a blast when younger...

Location location location ... fresher air, live below Chumphon.

The humidity 60-80% would be more an issue vs AQI of 50+.  Thailand isn't for everyone, but neither is most other places if having health issues.

Search google for
"z lib org"
and thank me later.

There is a limit of five books per day there. Or ten, if you register. The place is particularly valuable if you're doing research--they have scholarly articles as well. As is, I often need to order an old, out of print book from ABE or through Amazon. But Z certainly cuts down on this number by a huge factor.

5/10 a day should be plenty for most people lol
you can also increase this number by donating to them
iirc details are provided after donation

True. And every now and then they even have an event for unlimited downloads over a two or three day period.

I'm not sure why you say miserable.

To me miserable would be living in a cold damp UK bedsit surrounded by Syrian refugees.

Here my pension buys me a nice house, younger woman in my bed, plenty of beer and MJ.

I'm not entirely sure what some posters expect from life in their twilight years.

Time for a mug of typhoo tea and a bacon sarnie...... Can life get any better?

Yes, more bacon on your bread.

Yes good twilight years comment, when my brother in law and good friend died at 30 I decided life was for living and worked to play, spent 35+ years just hopping on planes to Thailand and and other destinations, partying as time allowed, or weekends away in Europe or just heavy drinking and socialising in London and provincial pubs.

I simply could not live that lifestyle now ???? so have eased off a lot therefore rural Thailand, a wife, children and grandchildren suits me well right now ????

Plus the farm keeps me active, life is better than I anticipated following a life where I honestly did not expect to last beyond 60 ???? I will never have money as my children need it more than me, besides I have probably spent more and seen more than my family ever will, at least they start with a home and a piece of land already so perhaps they too can enjoy their younger years without concerns about how they will end up in their 'Twighlight years'

As for saving and keeping costs down in Thailand, just adding two more ensuite bedrooms and sitting room, so I guess that's ongoing

Perhaps you also then make your own food, clothes, furniture, books and vehicles. There are natural limits to savings. ????????

N. NJ ... nuff said ... ????

Huffing all those fumes from the chemical plants, I can see where they've become confused ????

Use to work at Newark airport, but lived down of Exit 8/Hightstown (Princeton area).  When I got up to exit 11 ... Holy Buddha.   Don't know how people lived in that area and above.

The NJ Sloppy Joe is called as such because it originated at Sloppy Joe's Bar in Havana Cuba and was first made in NJ in 1935.

As far as the rest, the sandwiches are great.

Been to Sloppy Joe's bar @ Key West more than a few times. ????

I give myself a budget of 500 bt a day--and i rarely spend it all in a day

I have typical thai room--studio--ac--tv--mini fridge--small but comfy n cozy in city 3500

ride my bicycle everyday--rarely ride my 95 honda dream--paid for--bought 2nd hand

as others said i dont buy new things--2nd hand clothes etc....nice and soft--brand names 20-30bt

i shop at local market--spend about 100 on food for the day  room comes to about 115 a day

I may go out once a week--with my sangsom bottle..just wander and meet locals on street

as i dont need to be in a bar to drink--pay double and get the bargirl asking me for an OJ

Im happy cooking my own food--raw chicken at lotus is cheap to cook..steam veggies-rice 10 bt

Watch a movie online streamed with my chromecast and AIS wifi  200 bt unlimited a month

I live in needs--not wants--but if i really want stg I can get it--but im happy living like a local

I have all the basic human needs --happiness comes from within--not from junky material things--Buddha seems to agree.....

When i go back home to work i sleep in my old 95 camry wagon i tinted out and put a bed in the back--use a 24 hrs gym...eat at markets and was doing some work similar to grab-line delivery

Once u get rid off all the junk you realize what u really need--i always come here with a carry on

Would everything be dandy if you had a tent under the overpass? You need to draw the line somewhere.

Yeah, mine has gone up over 100K in that time. Just a lower middle class home. Totally agree, it costs me much more to live in Thailand than in the US. But, not near the fun, and I can travel and have a blast in one month what is would cost me in a week here. My problem with Thailand it is not a retirement destination for older expats IMO. Way to polluted. Just miserable after you reach a certain age if you have any kind of respiratory problems what so ever. I think you hit the magic answer. You reach a certain age, things all across the board just change.

Great to join the chase when you are a young man, but when you get old and there is NO chase, a whole basket of new issues pop up with health being number 1.

Starting to investigate better options
