I am looking for classic silk neckties with a width of 9cm. Unfortunately, the vast majority of ties for sale in Bangkok are narrower. I have been to department stores of all major malls in the downtown (Siam Paragon, Central World, etc.) and the ties there are no good. I got a decent tie from Jim Thompson recently - it is wide enough at the bottom but it narrows up more than I would prefer so it's not perfect. Any recommendations in Bangkok?

Then he/she is not making them, simply selling them.  Calling self a tailor is a stretch.

 

I haven't had anything made in over 20 years.  Just shirts, and they still wear good.  Abet fading a bit.  Now the wife makes everything.

What's wrong with wearing a tie? A couple of my ties are getting a bit shabby so I'm following this thread with interest. The links so far have been too expensive for me though. I normally spend about 30-35GBP per tie from TM Lewin or Hawes and Curtis.

Got too agree with you, I've been here for nearly 11 years, I don't think I have worn a tie yet.

I wear longs, shoes and socks at weddings I wear denim jeans, long Scout socks and steel toe capped wellies for grass and scrub cutting.

 

I haven't worn a tie for around 15 years. Other than a cravat the tie is the most useless item of menswear ever invented.

 

It is useful in an emergency as a sling or a tourniquet, or perhaps as a belt.

You are in a tropical country. Why wear a tie?

Just spit ballin' here but maybe the issue isn't the width of the tie ...

For me it was company policy for engineers to wear a tie. After the Monday visit to the office it was down to the car, throw the tie in the back and clear off out to work.
