Accident Teacher Killed in Road Crash, Days Before House Blessing Ceremony

A 40-year-old vocational school teacher was killed in a road crash on the night of 2 July, just days before he and his fiancée were due to hold a traditional housewarming ceremony for their newly built home. The victim, identified as Mr. Opas, was returning home after teaching an evening class when his green Vespa motorcycle collided with a black Isuzu pickup truck in front of the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) in Wiang Subdistrict, Chiang Kham District, Phayao Province. Pol. Lt. Col. Bandit Mutimakka, an investigator at Chiang Kham Police Station, responded to the incident along with physicians from Chiang Kham Hospital and the Siam Ruam Phayao rescue unit. Upon arrival, emergency services found Mr. Opas unconscious by the roadside. Despite attempts to resuscitate him, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The pickup truck involved in the crash was damaged on its left front side. The driver, Mr. Wichian, a resident of Chiang Kham’s Faikwang Subdistrict, was taken for alcohol testing. Police have stated that a full investigation into the cause of the crash is underway. According to the director of the technical college where Mr. Opas worked as an electrical engineering teacher, the victim had just finished an evening class and was on his way to his new home in Romyen Subdistrict, Sobsaa village. He and his fiancée had recently completed construction on the house and were preparing for a traditional bai sri su kwan blessing ceremony in the coming days. Police have pledged to proceed with the case carefully, examining all evidence and witness accounts to fully determine the circumstances surrounding this incident. Causes of the exponential increase in Thai obesity?
tSuch ignorance and cultural superioity here. For how many years has Thailand had this problem? For how many years have our "advanced" western countries (led by the USA) had this problem? There are (for those actually interested) two factors at work. Years ago, most people had manually demanding jobs that toom energy. They could prett much eat what they wanted and wold burn those calories each day. Most of the World is now much, much, more sedentray than even 50 years ago - but this change happened in USA and Europe first which is partly why we lead the way in obesity. Allied to this, and possibly of greater impact, was a guy called Earl Butz and the policies he instigated while US Sec of Ag. that resulted in huge increases in corn production - leading directly to the widespread addition of corn starch, syrup, dextrose (and lots of other derivatives) to processed food. BTW - the McD burger itself is often pretty good - it is the sugar laden bun and sauces that are the culprits in making a happy meal an unhealthy meal PH
