No one forbids you to get a travel health insurance in your home country which you can use as an add-up. Expats who work here are not tourists.

No one forbids you to get a travel health insurance in your home country which you can use as an add-up. Expats who work here are not tourists.

If you trust and undestand the "insurance cover", stay less than 31 days, get taken to only a Government hospital, and do not exceed any of the T&C's!

The biggest problem is vacationing farangs crashing motorbikes while driving drunk and/or without a valid motorbike license.

 

I think they will pay their 300 baht, only to find that one of the above invalidates their insurance. So the GoFundMe campaigns will continue.

Travel insurance covers also health, so it's entirely to traveller if he gets separate policy.

Even regular health insurance have some international coverage for emergency treatments and for accidents. Probably many americans do have health insurance which would cover them in thailand, but not that many europeans have any health insurance

Not sure about the, “many Americans”. May well be true  since the U.S. sadly has no national healthcare program so it is a hodgepodge of private insurance or not. What I would love to see is a wrap around Thai healthcare program bringing retirees into the Thai national system for a substantially higher accident policy for 300 baht. If it works to cover the tourist motorbike accident then that would address one major issue.

I am a 67-year-old Ferang, living in Thailand with a 5 year "Privilege Visa" and a private health insurance which costs me ~ TB 120,000 /a., covering hospitalisation only.


So now, after arriving from abroad, can I do all my medical needs within the 1st 30 days?
Who will get the 1 Mio. should I die?

They won't know about it, in the same way they have no knowledge of the departure tax.

It doesn't say that expats can use the insurance, only that they have to pay along with everyone else.

The real catch is hardly anyone will be able to use the insurance.

Well, they would. They would ask for your passport number and its expiry date and no doubt your nationality too. That's long been my experience.

That would be an additional accident insurance where you can put someone (your Thai spouse) as a beneciary in case you die. Or put in a will.

We don't know that, do we. It seems to me that those who have accidents of any kind will benefit, but not those who fall sick. And it'll work as any insurance does. The companies- in this case the government - charge a large enough fee, knowing only a few will use it and they have enough in the pot not to lose money over it.

Yep, I remember the booth - didn't come back for a while (maybe 10 years) and missed the machine era completely!

I wonder if elective surgery is covered under other incidents. Expats might actually get their money's worth.

I definitely remember that.  Confused a lot of tourists.  Years ago I was in the Bahamas and two very young and hung over guys almost didn't get to leave the country because they used their last $ at the casino and didn't know that had to pay $$$ to LEAVE the country.  No one told them.  Unfortunately they were in front of me at the check in line.  Similar things at BKK airport, but fortunately they were behind me.!????

Of course this is in addition to the previous 300 and 500 charges already included in fares. Only difference is the pretence that this is 'insurance' and as we know 'insurance companies' take no risk.

This insurance is for foreign tourists, and they can use it (instead of leaving unpaid bills)

basically were paying for the clumsy ones. so yeah that pisses me off and causes stress so yes we are entitled to at least a $300B refund up to $20,000B depending on how idiotist we can act
