webfact Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Picture: Thai Rath A property developer on his way south from Bangkok to Hat Yai didn't make it yesterday. Phanumas, 34, was driving a Mercedes Benz C350E worth 2.7 million baht when he got an indicator on the dash that all was not well with the electrics. He jumped out as he saw fire then watched as his vehicle burned completely outside a Shell gas station in Nahkhon Sri Thammarat. Picture: Thai Rath He said he had hit some metal plate in the road then the indicators well off, reported Thai Rath. Thasala police and fire services were on the scene but not quick enough to cave the car. Sanook had a picture of the fire in progress with a caption "luxury car burns out". -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-07-18 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Excel Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Hardly a top of the range motor but wondering whether or not that as it was a hybrid had any bearing on the reported electrical issues that may have been the cause of the fire ? 2 2
Tarteso Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 If you buy a 2,7 million baht car, can afford to insure it. Insurance pays, I guess. 2

No, it is probably better to continue drive, look at the flames, feel the heat and burn to death. You do know that the road, usually is like 30 - 50 meter from where you park to refill? It´s also a reason why they dig down the fuel tanks. 3 1 2

Plus of course a filling station is well equipment with fire extinguishers 3

SAFETY FIRST Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Unlucky. I reckon he hadn't been wearing his amulet. Lessons learned, always wear your amulet, don't leave home without it. 1

poyai111 Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Maybe overheated battery. Hot day and poor battery maintenance is explosive combination. Troubleshooting invitation
digger70 Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 It was a Hybrid and he ran over some Metal plate. I would say that he damaged the Battery packs under the the car and shorted and started the fire . Yep,Go So Called Green Fuel and Burn.

Tropposurfer Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Under the superb Benz warranty (provided the car was still under a New or Benz Preferred Vehicle warranty) and, if the car had had some sort of internal failure resulting in fire rather than hitting something on the road he'd be covered and simply be given a new car. However the driver admitting he hit something, failed to stop as soon as he saw the warning light mutes the superb Benz warranty and leaves him looking to the insurance underwriter for claim and payout. I own (in LOS) and have owned Benz's (Oz) for years so this burn-down to the rims is on him not the problem of Benz.
PETERTHEEATER Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Thank heavens someone had the presence of mind to open the hood and allow fresh oxygenated air in otherwise the whole car could have melted.......????

MarcusL Posted July 20, 2022 Posted July 20, 2022 “He said he had hit some metal plate in the road then…” at least he can be thankful the roads were not wet’n’slippery!
