Why isn't every male in the UK living in thailand?

I seriously do not dream of your life in Thailand as a dream life.

 

I have 26 rai and a giant house, cars, etc. I see my life as a compromise to where my wife wants to live. I still have a wonderful place, all paid for, in the US. Pretty sure that life is more of a dream than here.  

Alot of my single friends back in the US are smart, charming, successful and wonderful men. Here, I have a few single friends who simply cannot afford to have a woman in their lives.

 

But wow. Alot of profoundly ugly judgment, in one post. Perhaps the "most judgmental post of the week"? 

 

No need to address any specifics when a man has his mind set on tearing down the lifestyle of any other, with a very limited amount of information to work with, and alot of preconceived nations. 

 

I tend to be more a life and let live sort.

IMO marriage was invented waaaaay back when working class men worked long hours and didn't live long lives, and rich men marry for reasons other than love ( appearances, status, someone to pass the wealth on to etc ) and have totty on the side.

You think every man wants to get married or have a relationship? I envy those that choose to remain single. Had I done so I'd be happy, wealthy and living the life in LOS with rentals.

My 2 long term relationships turned into emotional disasters that ruined me financially.

 

I'd live in LOS if I could, even if I couldn't get a woman of any age. At the very least, pretty girls are everywhere to look at while a pretty girl here is a rarity.

Somewhere along the line in this modern age, many western women abandoned femininity, and think being fat and unattractive is OK. It's even becoming a "crime" to say someone is fat.

The best thing about LOS that I liked, was the ( mostly ) absence of the PC <deleted> that IMO has ruined western society.

I'd trade a year in Thailand for all the years I have left to live not in Thailand, in a heartbeat.

Health care in the UK is free to patients ( don't go on about paying taxes- many in the UK never work a day in their life, but still get free health care ), over 60 I got free public transport after 9 am, free prescriptions.

Many old people live in council accommodation.

If it comes down to it, pet food isn't expensive and people can live on it too.

 

Those with a house can sell it and live off the profit, and those with sense move to Thailand where the money gives them a far better lifestyle for a lot longer.

I did not come to Asia to find a wife. Although, in retrospect, at the time, maybe I should have come to find two MORE wives, in order to have three, the perfect number for stability. 

 

But these days, it just saddens me to see fine young men arriving in places in SE Asia with, seemingly, only two things on their minds; either hooking up, or finding a wife, most probably in the mistaken belief that what they were unable to obtain in their home countries will somehow, maybe miraculously, fall into their laps in Pattaya...such absurdity. 

 

The thing is, I chose to travel to Asia soon after being married to a Jiangxi beauty of wealth and means and intelligence. One of her brothers was a PhD candidate at a top Ivy League school, not Harvard, luckily. After the revolution, her family set up a newspaper in Hong Kong, a place many here from Scotland know something about. Those were the days when Chinese peasants would carry lichee on bamboo poles, 擔杖, across the border and then board the train to Kowloon. A majority of the lichee carried by these peasants were worm ridden, unsurprisingly, most likely by Commie worms. The Commies, back in the day, knew not much about pesticides. Too busy killing sparrows, I guess. 

 

OK, where was I?  Oh, yeah, I think I must have gotten sidetracked by the worms....the worms coming from over the border, maybe for the sole purpose of hooking up. 

 

You know, I have heard it often said by no less of a personage than Dickens' Tiny Tim that, according to him, Americans understand neither sarcasm nor irony. According to this Dickens character, it is only the Australians who are able to read books such as Candide, books full of satire and abstruse references to ironical things. Maybe, after years behind the microphone, radio goes to one's head. Just ask the loudmouth behind infowars. 

 

Poor Tiny Tim, while having his Christmas goose, neglected to read Mark Twain. Do they even have rivers so great as the Mississippi, in Australia? But, as Tim maintains, Americans, while captaining a riverboat down the great river, never learned about irony. 

 

And so, continuing to reply to this topic, stimulating as it is, another reason guys might not come here is because it's just not so easy, and not as easy as one might be led to believe, watching YT videos produced mainly by idiots who, while they understand the social media technology, so superficially, still know almost nothing about living in Asia. 

 

I am the first to admit that I know too little about life in Asia. 

 

I usually don't say much. 

 

Mostly, I prefer to keep my trap shut, just listening to others better educated about life in these parts. 

 

I did not come here for the women. If I can't have three under my roof, one or two is not enough for stability and harmony. 

 

And I don't know anyone here wealthy enough to support three women, especially given present-day inflation. 

 

There is another Chinese (maybe from Taiwan) "saying" which goes.. A man should have three wives, an American wife, a Japanese wife, and a Chinese wife. 

 

The American wife can provide a big house. 

The Chinese wife can provide good food. 

The Japanese wife, she can provide the rest.

I did go to LOS for the women, and lived life as good as it gets for a western guy of modest means that wants to wake up with an attractive woman beside him occasionally.

That life could have continued on till this day had I not fallen down the rabbit hole of stupidity and got married to one of them.

That's what happens when one thinks it is possible to have cake and eat it too.

Assuming by "rai" it's in Thailand, you don't own any land, your wife does, and as for a house or any other possessions, you only have them as long as she allows you to do so ( unless you have Thai citizenship ).

 

We are aliens in Thailand, and unless one of the few that has become a Thai citizen, we only have anything till we don't.

Yes. And I used to tell folks, both here and back in USA, that I moved to Thailand as a skilled volunteer  (with US federal govt. certification) at a large Thai NGO under Royal Patronage of the (then) H.M. King of Thailand working with Thai disadvantaged populations.

 

Except, for me, that was true.

I used to visit the Friday 'drop-in' for pensioners in my previous UK town (part of my job).

These old folk were living lonely desperate lives, many had large expensive houses, but essentially lived in a single room without enough money to heat the rest of the home. Every winter some of them would die through lack of food or lack of heat. Couldn't afford transport, couldn't afford repairs to their house, a struggle to walk to the local shops to buy food then carry it home.

 

It was really sad to see so many ending their lives like that.

You sound like you have no idea of the lives of many ordinary western pensioners.

Yes, very sad indeed.. what i found sad was on my brief 2 week trips back to USA to visit my parents was the Sunday morning breakfast where the guy was sitting looking dazed and not having a clue as to what to do w/his 2 young kids on his visitation day. 

 

Or even worse, sitting hopelessly lonely by himself. 

 

The West can be cold in many ways.

Where else can you get 6 hours of free entertainment (actual cost at least 400k) at your local train station, yesterday and today. Where else would the toilets be inaccessible in the gleaming new edifice resulting in people having to stumble over 4 rail tracks and down a 4 foot wall to get to one over the road at the old station. Thailands unending quirkiness is always engaging, no chairs at the concert either!

Actually I was interested in Thai history that's how I ended up living in Old city there are older temples and buildings too from when the Cambodians occupied the area. ????
