What do you think about ASEANNOW new aggressive adverts?

well the topic says all.

I'm sure everyone noticed that this great source of information website began a really aggressive and (at times) annoying advertisement campaign. It is all over my screen or my mobile and sometimes blocks my view or my mouse clicks..

Really large icons.. or flashing things.. at the bottom of the webpage.. at the corner.. it really started to be like some click bate website thing!  It starts from the homepage and it gets bigger when you click on some topics to read. That is the worst one. There is a full-screen advertisement that pops up whenever i click a topic to read.. Another thing is that sometimes when the homepage comes up, I click a little bit quickly and then the link I click goes down and it makes me auto-click the advertisement.

i really know it is not easy to keep a website live. I did some websites and related professional income in my.. young life. So i know its not easy.. but i never disturb any user with advertisements. thats another thing.

So I was wondering what your thoughts were on this. Again, I'm not trying to start an argument or anything else. I just want to mention something that has been starting to happen for 3-4 months now or a little bit more. Please be objective. We all know and agree that money and income are important, but does it really worth disturbing a lot of people? 

 

PS: i almost forgot.. its also so annoying to see BIG advertisements when you are reading posts in a topic.. between every 2 or 3 posts there is this BIG advertisements on your way down to read..

Thank you for the screenshot. I find this absolutely horrible.

 

The general problem is that the website seems clearly designed for desktop computers with big monitors without any thought for smartphone users.

My experience with progressively monetized forums is that the quality of the posts is decreasing. I read fewer threads than before. Maybe the ultimately remaining audience is a more attractive target group for advertising. Moving this topic to an auxiliary forum will not change the forum operators' dilemma.

thats truth.. agree. but.. you ok with the big adverbs bothering you.. websites also important how they work too.. how easy to use.. or else.. na

you would use a website full of advertisements keep bothering you OR you want to use a website easy to use.. brows.. reach or click easy where you want to?

Adverts may be annoying to some on this site as it may well be on thousands of others.  However there is one simple solution for those that find adverts annoying on any site, simply don't access that site.

I took an ipad when I went to Thailand and was shocked at what a different experience it was compared to my work computer at home. Slower. So annoying. Flashing stuff and sometimes covering the text.

Obviously running this site isn't free and the $$$ has to come from somewhere (I know that's stating the obvious but sometimes ...)

 

So, would anyone actually go with a subscription model to be ad-free? Possibly along the lines of some of the news sites, say 5 free threads a day then the ads kick in.

 

I doubt the cost would be significant but I've not done any numbers.

hi guys,

i think this topic is off from what i intended. My point was i see adverbs everywhere and its kind of annoying and what other people think about it. I didnt want or mention someone tells or explain how to block them or avoid seeing these. its very normal that a website use adverbs to earn money or keep the website going.

As long as the forum provides  useful information and help, I would pay a subscription fee for being ad free. The more ads I see, the less I use the forum. I manage my apps similarly: apps with ads are either purchased or rarely used resp. ultimately deleted.

I wouldn't access this forum or any other site with intrusive ads on my phone and I will leave it at that. Accessing it on my laptop, I have no issues. In my opinion, it will drive away some users and whoever makes the decisions should have just stuck with sponsored posts or maybe a few banners but they have all the data and if there is no traffic decrease after they were implemented, then they are here to stay.

Actually entered site on my phone early this morning, which I rarely do, possibly the first time.  If I had to use my phone to access the site, with all the ad c r a p ... I wouldn't bother.

 

That's just annoying.
