Honda CT125 Trail

Featured Replies

Anyone a few month into owning the new model?

If so you would consider it a solid purchase or just a novelty bike for the weekends?

Looking for a daily runner coming from a Wave 125i which has been bulletproof

except for the high kilometers the clock now has on it.

Any insight appreciated.

Paddy Doyle just got one and will be taking it on the road from Bangkok to Chiang Mai soon.  He seems to be excited about it.  He road a Honda Wave to all 77 provinces in Thailand.

That high up exhaust would be good for Pattaya floods

Sure is, plenty of awesome mods for this bike as well.

It basically is a Honda Wave, same engine etc. I think the deciding factor regarding which bike to choose is: Do you only ride alone, or do you plan taking passengers?

On a Wave you can take a passenger and still have the under seat storage, you can even install a rack and put a top box in addition to it.

With the CT125 you can't properly take a passenger with you, and if you install a box on the back there is not even space.

If you only ride alone anyway, then the CT125 offers some advantages compared to a Wave:

Higher ground clearance, can ride through deeper floods (this does of course depend on where you live/ride, for some people it might not matter).

Easier to carry lots of stuff, and the weight distribution is better (weight not so far back)

I think the CT125 looks quite cool, but that's of course just a matter of taste.

I have ridden around a lot on mine and will be off again for a few months later in the year. Great fun, don't be in a hurry and explore off road tracks is what it is good for.

Here is my trip report..............

I bought my Kawasaki from a 75 year old who said it was getting too heavy for him. He had already bought a CT125 to replace it. He has ridden all over the place on it. I.e. from Chiang Mai to Phuket and beyond. He says he doesn't go much more than 70-80 kph.

CT is perfect if one lives up north and wants to explore gravel roads and farm tracks. I intend to build my own copy when I find the perfect donor bike.

Insight???? CT is a ruggedized Wave with a different look so will stand out from the crowd.  Think Enfield Himalayan but smaller. I think there is a red one as well.

I like the CT125 but it is not that easy to find in showrooms and you could build a ghetto version from a Wave or Cub/Dream for not much money.  Plenty of people do that round here for farm use.

It was a Honda Dream not a Wave.

The suggested retail price of a CT125 here in the States is about 150,000 Baht.

Well was able to test drive one today from a local dealer.

Rode really nice with smooth handling and very true to it's trail bike roots.

That said I think it would be a crappy daily driver inside the city.

Why?

It is a trail bike at heart, almost akin to riding around on an enduro thru the city.
