Studying Thai on ED visa

Featured Replies

Is it true that while studying Thai on a student visa, the immigration or customs can randomly check your basic Thai language skills? Thanks.

Some offices will check your language skills when you apply for 90 day extensions.

Maybe, sign up for a self defence course rather than a Thai language course, if your local immigration officials are attractive young women. Getting to grips with them as they test your proficiency in hand to hand fighting might be a rather pleasant experience.

It is true. I had a classmate in a Thai language school who told me he once failed the Thai language test and his visa was not renewed.

Those 'self-defence' course is a visa mill, somebody told me that it's all theory and there was not much physical interaction if any.

I've been on a 1 year ed visa before switching to a marriage extension and immigration has never tested my thai language skill

Answer the OP, instead of comedy.

OP, your Thai will not be tested.

There's a really easy, and novel fix for this.

Go to the classes a few times a week for an hour, study for an hour a day for say 5 days a week. then when you go the I.O. office to get your next extension you can address the officers with your new baby Thai skills and all will be well.
