Thai relative travel to UK alone - after some advice please

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

Just after bit of advice if poss please..... Su's sister wants to come to visit us in the UK next year.

(been about 20 years since done all the visa stuff - be more question on that to come I'm sure ????)

She' s a Thai national but has no understanding of English (written or spoken.)

Hopefully she'll get the visit visa ok, if so ideally want her to travel Thailand ---> Uk leg alone.

Would be direct flight/ Thai or Eva, but it's how she would deal with the airport and all that goes with it on arrival in the UK !
Do any airlines or Heathrow offer any assistant/ escorting service for this right through to arrivals ? Happy to pay whatever it is.

Return leg back to Thailand ok, Su will be going with her.

Thanks very much
Sy

Download a thai english ap on phone

Show to people if need help

If farangs who speak 5 words can handle bkk then a thai can handle the west

Search "heathrow arrival assistance".  There are several companies offering arrival services from the gate.  Heathrow does have its own service but seems not taking bookings after this month for some reason.

As Upnotover has said, there are commercial operators who provide a meet and assistance service but they don't come cheap, probably in the region of £350, in the absence of any freeservices for non English speakers/readers on arrival maybe she should just follow the crowd to Immigration, if she's on a direct flight I'm sure there will be others in her position, or at least someone she can ask.

I'm assuming you and you wife will be there to meet her, she should your phone number available in the case the Border Force Officer wants to clarify any points, they do have access to telephone translators, and they do use them.
Once through Immigration, again follow the crowds, it's all one way.
Downloading a Thai to English app was a good suggestion.

If she is on a direct flight, then there will be plenty of Thais on the flight she can ask for help or as said just follow the crowd

Thanks Guys... like you say she could tag along with rest of the crowd probably be fine, I'm just over thinking it (as usual) !

Heathrow 'arrive & assist' looks very good though at around £125(?) - probably go for that if is this service is still running then for that extra bit of piece of mind ????

Google Translate is standard on android. Get her to use it before she goes.

How do you converse with her?
