visa on arrival or 60 day visa to convert to O A visa

Featured Replies

Hi All

I had a retirement visa in Thailand, that expired in May 2021 as i have been stuck in the UK since December 2020 due to the restrictions in returning to Thailand.

I would like to come back shortly and have been on the Embassy web site to obtain a 60 day visa, honestly ita a right f@*k on, they want to know everything which i have complied with till it asked me to

"download declaration" ( i havent got a clue what that is) plus a host of other stuff , travel booking confirmation, proof of accomodation, financial evidence of funds, confirmation of residence in your country and about 3 other things, that seem totally imaterial to coming to Thailand.

so ......back to my Question !

can i just come in on a visa on arrival and still be able to get my retrement visa ?

i have everything i need to facilitate the process, but my concern is the time scale or if it would be allowed under the visa on arrival stamp.

Thanks in anticipation, i know there a lot of helpful people out there .

You are not eligible for a Visa on Arrival.

You are eligible for a Visa Exempt Entry.

You can then apply for the Non Imm visa and 12 month stay for reirement at Immigration.

You can only get a Non Imm O-A Visa in your country.

I would forget about applying for a TV - From 1st October, you can get a 45 day Visa Exempt entry into Thailand, then extend that for 30 days - 75 days in total should give you enough time to get your affairs in order.

arriving on a visa exempt entry will after 1st October give you a 45 permission to stay stamp, you could get a 30 day extension within Thailand if you need more time 1,900thb, you will need 800,000thb in a bank account within Thailand in you name only on the day of application, no seasoning required at this time, to convert to a non immigrant O visa 2,000thb (not OA) ,you will need to apply at local immigration office with at least 14 days left on this permission to stay stamp, in the last 30 days of the new 90 day permission to stay stamp taht came with the non imm visa you can apply for a yearly 'retirement' extension 1,900thb

OP, the 30 days (45 from Oct 1) visa exempt entry will give you enough time to obtain your Non O visa.

That visa gives you a 90 day stamp and you can obtain your 12 month extension after money seasoned for 2 months.

Be aware that to obtain the non O you require 15+ days remaining on your permission of stay so you need to apply asap after you Arive.

Thanks for all your helpful replies.

I must have had an O visa as I acquired it in Thailand not my home country.

I am coming in September so will just miss the 45 days visa exempt but will get the 30 day which I can extend by another 30 days.

I have enough money in Thailand already to cover that part, I just need to update my bank book and get a letter from bank.

Will I be able to get my O visa from Hua Hin immigration or would I have to go to BKK to get it done ?.

If theres anything else I'm missing please advise.

You have all been so helpful

You can do it Hua Hin if that is where you will be living.

Also note that some offices require more than 15 days, up to 21+ to be remaining, so that makes the need for speed even more important.

Yep CM is one.

Always best to check with individual offices

Very naive post.

Of course there are forms and requirements.

Here is thread for step 1.

Changing from visa exempt to non O .

Ubonjoe outlines required form in first post.

In addition the second step is to obtain a 12 month extension.

That also requires form TM7 and financial requirements.
