A 3-year-old boy and a 5-month-old girl were safely taken to the Chonburi children’s shelter after being found on Pattaya Walking Street.

Pattaya tourist police were called by a good Samaritan to check on two young children on Pattaya Walking Street at 5:30 PM last night, October 4th.

The two, a 3-year-old boy and a 5-month-old girl, were discovered alone with two bags of clothes. An unnamed good Samaritan found them near a pumping station in front of Walking Street, according to police reports.

Or may be parents simply couldn't feed the kids anymore due to lack of money? At least they will be looked after now.

Desperate people to desperate things.

There's  absolutely no sane reason in the world for such age kids to wondering alone with bags of clothes, the parent should be found and red the riot act to them no matter what reasons they will have...

I suppose if a story is devoid of actual details (as this one is), people will embellish, exaggerate and make up there own narrative.

HAVE A LOOK AT THE PHOTO IN THE OP, its obvious the children have been reunited with there parents. The children have not been abandoned, they are not now living in an orphanage. The parents are not drunk, or arrested. I dare say this is nothing more than a misunderstanding, both parents probably wandered off thinking the other parent was looking after the kids, or something similar.

Clearly you didn't read the article. You made up your own narrative.

From the linked article:

Pattaya tourist police tried to locate the children’s parents but failed, so the children were taken to the Chonburi Provincial Housing for Children and Families to be taken care of while awaiting their parents.

Where's it say in the article they were united with their parents? That's a foreign couple by the looks of it in the photo.

That foreign couple could adopt the kids if the parents are not found,  that's why they are holding them.  The real parents are either in the Casino or at the bar.  The police will process papers for the adoption process.

Give it time, the parent(s) may yet turn up. And assuming they are in the Casino (which one is that?) or a bar is a stretch too. They might be frantically hunting the streets. Although I do suspect it IS abandonment... Sad testimony to recent times.

Is it really that easy to adopt kids? Just go to the police station?

sorry,  they cannot be at the Casino because they don't have any money. They are drunk on the beach or at the 7-11 waiting for the foreigner to give them 100 baht.

No its not. It takes a couple of years, costs $20k US, involves all sorts of government and private agencies in both countries, police have nothing to do with it.

That's the official way.

Please explain where you found that info. I think a lot of us are confused over that "fact".

This is Thailand.

Anything is possible.

Certainly not taking a couple of kids and bunging the police some money. You had any experience adopting kids?

How sad ????  This may well be the tip of a coming iceberg as I fear that as the cost of living continue to rise and employers are not prepared to increase the minimum wage above 300 baht per day, more people will become desperate and leave their children either with a relative or, at their wits end, abandon them in the hope that they will be looked after by the state.

I find the expression "a good Samaritan" somewhat amusing as it is often used here in this Buddhist country. God bless those poor little mites. ????
