Condo lease agreement in joint names?

Featured Replies

Is it possible to do this?  Talking about in Bangkok.  Lease in my and my Thai girlfriend's names.  I'll be away a lot but also want the lease to have my name included for use in other aspects of life (read Thai immigration, transport dept etc).  Grateful for any thoughts.

I think many landlords would be happy to put two persons' names on a lease and make them jointly and severally liable for rent and/or damages.

Yes, it is possible, however it is at the discretion of the lessor.

As mentioned though it can often be to the lessor's benefit.

Yes it is possible .I have done it to my tenants band it proved useful when one left and the other struggled with the rent. It was settled amicably. I ensure the deposit was kept as a single one and not split therefore when one left they did not receive a refund of half . But it is all down to the landlord.

Thanks to all.  It seems no real downside (from my perspective at least), so I'll make the proposal to my prospective new landlord.

My flat lease only one name.

Contrary to the notion that the landlord would have two responsible parties I believe they think it works the opposite. With two.. no one is ultimately responsible and what happens if one of the parties does a runner.

Is the liability joint?
