Klonko
We just returned from a 2600 km road trip and 90% of roads were very good. It very much depends on the province, possibly with a negative correlation to corruption.
ed strong
Ive also got a couple of issues with the pavements lol. Its a cheap as chips country, not sure what you expect even the roads in UK can ruin your rims. The right turns off the dual carriageways are the most dangerous part of Thai driving, of course pot holes don't help.

Like you say many roads in that area, when we were last riding around there ChiangMai, ChiangRai, Nong Khai the roads were great. The heavy use main roads are the ones to avoid. I was specifically talking about the new road built between CR and CM

As you thought the roads were great , you couldn't have noticed the unevenness of the road . Its noticeable in buses and cars where the wavy road and the suspension causes the vehicle to bounce around a lot

Well, after reading all the comments here, I decided to take a different route today. On the way, we took what I thought would be a shortcut, to pass through Nong Bua Lamphu but that road is horrendous. If any of you value your vehicle, I don't suggest you take that road. We just came back from Nong Khai and went straight to Khon Kaen, which was pretty smooth sailing apart from a few very rough patches. As far as I remember, the road from CR to the Phrae area was ok. Don't even get me started on the amount of stress the immigration officers put me through in the last few days. Apart from that though, everything else is tickety boo.
