Pol Lt-Gen Surachate "Big Joke" Hakpan was in Hat Yai, southern Thailand yesterday after a gang of safe-crackers were arrested following a seven year reign of theft.

The gang known as the "Very Fat Monkeys" had been involved in 22 thefts spanning 2016 to this year before four arrests were made.

Three of the biggest thefts were from safes in the Palm Springs housing estate in Hat Yai, the Sampeng shop in Hat Yai and a place in Suphanburi, central Thailand. Cash and valuables totalling 21 MB, 6MB and 12MB were stolen in those cases respectively.

All the cases saw 50 million baht in cash and valuable go missing. The gang have admitted their involvement.

Surachate outlined to victims how some of the property has been recovered and what is happening as the inquiry is expanded to fences of the stolen goods.

INN gave no explanation as to why Surachate was wearing a business suit rather than the fatigues of a policeman.

Maybe he was visiting his mother-in-law whilst in Hat Yai.

He will need a better tailor to step up to that.

The very fat monkeys met the pinstripe joke and confessions were instant amazing ????

Those fat monkeys will surly get skinnier in the many years of incarceration awaiting them, i suspect that not very much of the loot will be recovered...

Plain clothes detective???

He seems to be trying to boost his profile. Maybe he wants to get really dirty hands and enter politics.
