webfact
Daily News Thai Caption: Head on (collision). Dramatic footage taken by a motorist with a mobile phone and posted on Facebook showed the moment when a passenger train collided head on with a ten wheel truck/trailer carrying rice husks. It happened at a level crossing at Ban Lai, Mae Tha district of Lamphun. There were no reports of injuries as yet after the collision just before midday yesterday. The driver of the truck managed to get out in time. Picture: Daily News Reports on Facebook suggested that the driver of the truck had half gone over the crossing before a barrier descended on his trailer impeding his progress. Unable to go forward or backwards due to backed up traffic he decided to jump out as the train approached. Daily News reported that comment was rife online about the alleged negligence of the trucker. Posters suggested that there would have been warning sirens and he was trying to get across when he should have waited. Picture: Daily News They wanted to see him prosecuted fully in the matter. Passengers were seen getting off the train in the aftermath of the collision. Popular Post Dmaxdan
So the barrier has come down and hit to rear trailer. I can't see why that would impede progress because there doesn't appear to be anything in front of the truck. Better to break the barrier than abandoned the vehicle and potentially put many lives at risk.

cardinalblue
Your barriers are flimsy and are designed to break if hit hard enough… I went thru our monahan’s gate’s arm the other day they give way let me tell you…for him to stay on the tracks is incredibly stupid…he should have jus plowed through as one does a quick cost benefit analysis in their mind… never stop on the tracks let alone abandon your stopped vehicle

Warning lights would have been flashing before the barrier came down, so I imagine he just ignored those. But - looking at the video, they are there but don't appear to be flashing although it's difficult to see for sure. Maybe the usual Thai maintenance standards and they weren't working? Or they weren't bright enough to see in the sun? Signed AseanNow Sleuth Edited November 11, 2022 by Bangkok Barry

sometimewoodworker
2 hours ago, FRK63 said: So now the trains brakes failed!???? That is a remarkably stupid comment. The train brakes didn’t fail as you can see by the fact that it managed to stop with half the train at the crossing, so it was already breaking before it hit the truck and no trains do not stop in the distances cars do. 1
