Laziness, the same way that most peorple don't get off their transport one stop early and walk.

Health, I try not to walk by any main road in Bangkok if I can. It's just not pleasant at all.

The traffic between Siam and MBK is hazardous to pedestrians?

I guess it's a different way of life. If you stay in Pattaya/Jomtien the air quality is going to be quite reasonable most of the time.

If you stay in Bangkok the air quality next to main roads is dreadful and it's something to avoid. I'm just in the habit of avoiding it where possible.

That being said you don't have to walk in a straight line along Rama I. You could walk through Siam Square or alternatively enter Siam Paragon, connect through Siam World, then get on the skywalk.

Oh, OK.  I've been in places in Thailand where Google maps shows a walking route that turns out to be on a super highway with vehicles flying by you at high speed LOL.  Not the most pleasant walk!

On a trip between Pattaya and Ekamai the conductor came and told off an Indian guy who had been yelling into his phone for the first 20 minutes of the trip....imagine being sat next to that!

Why not just walk from SIam to MBK?

Unless they added an overhead walkway since I was last there you can't get from Siam to MBK without going down to street level. That's why a 5 minute walk takes 9 minutes, plus the climb on the stairs to make one sweaty.

Easier to just wait for next train to MBK.

I used to do that all the time to avoid having to climb stairs ( escalators are great ), plus AC most of the way.

From a thread on Pattaya News

Pattaya — Pattaya Traffic Police collaborated with the Chonburi Department of Land Transport to arrest and fine dozens of Bolt drivers who did not have public transport driving licenses to pick up customers.
