Rawai – A French man who was arrested in Rawai last week for illegal possession of a whale’s skeleton claimed a seller told him it was made of wood.

Mr. Alain told officials that he bought the item from a market near Chalong. The seller told him it was made of wood. He used it to decorate the house and did not know it was a whale skeleton.

Officials are trying to track down the seller.

That one is right up there with "I got the watches from a dead friend"

Excellent defence. He said, they said.

Meanwhile, the guy who beat his girlfriend to a pulp is free as a bird. Must be a less serious crime than being caught in possession of this pair of wooden ribs.

The worst of this Report is there are Frenchmen yet with such bad taste, that they still confuse the refined Baroque art of Louis XVI, with the bizarre and mundane whale bone used to decorate possibly.. a rented room in Thailand. A silly comment before having my first coffee ????

I think it's dead

stupid nonessence

How much did he pay for it , if it was wood what would you pay 2000 baht ?
the land of , didn’t know , misunderstanding, he said , and the borrowed from dead mate

He would have been better off leaving his skeletons in the closet.

For the police, will the 'cetacean' in this case be criminal or not ?

I won't spout anymore - it's making me feel moby dick.

Fittingly, he has a certain je ne sais quoi.

It's certainly a bone of contention.

I'll stop blubbering....

One would presume that the Frenchman did not harpoon the whale himself and that these skeletal remains were found washed up on a beach.

Whether the Frenchman actually found them himself or if he bought them shouldn't really matter.

His actions did not endanger the (already dead) whale and he was not trying to take them out of the country.

They should just explain to him that he is accidentally breaking an obscure law that no one knew about (until this incident) and tell him that he has been a naughty boy, end of case.

The confiscated bones can then be stored away in a lock-up, to prevent people from seeing them. ????

As a side note, I once got offered some ancient Egyptian artifacts but it turned out to be a pyramid scheme.

I think they have a law here what says you can't remove anything from the beach or ocean,

All depends how much he paid for it is the best indicator of the truth. Plus buying it at a market where no doubt police and government officials visit......
