Following @Pib’s lead I registered my TrueMoney App and loaded some money.

Downloaded and successfully registered the Spark charging app and loaded up 300 baht from TrueMoney.

Entered the code and got a further 300 baht coupon to be used within 2 months. ( also did the survey for an additional 50 baht but that hasn’t landed yet ).

Today the opportunity arose to test out the Spark charger.

Pulled into a Bangchak pump near Nakhon Sawan city and was pleased to see the charger, way in the back, unoccupied.

As PiB has mentioned, the process is clear and easy with a super large screen.

Well that is a good start !!

beats my previous record of 115 kw’s.

The app is very clean and gives you all the info you need at a glance. I think Spark will be a winner !!

Pros - Easy to navigate and great speed.

Cons - need to extend roof over these chargers, got p1ss wet through !!

I like the Spark chargers (all 180KW chargers) with their BIG, bright screens (easily viewable even in the brightest sunlight) and the app-charger combo is pretty responsive.  This coming Sunday I'll probably do another test charge at another Bangchak location when visiting the mother in law in Nakhon Pathom province  as I burn-off the Bt300 credit which is good for 60 days.

And I did do above test today/Sunday while driving to the MIL's house.   Only charged for a few minutes as I just wanted to do another brief test of a Spark charger and the charging session went smooth & fine. And payment of this charging session came out of my Spark Coupon Wallet where Spark gave me Bt300 credit as a new user.  Me like Spark EV.

@Andrew Dwyer

Glad your Spark charging session went smooth and fine also.    And from rereading the details of Bt50 coupon wallet credit for completing the  Spark questionnaire that Bt50 will be provided within 5 business days "of the end of the questionnaire collection period which runs from 13 to 26 Aug."   The Bt50 does not arrive within 5 business days of completing the questionnaire like I mentioned in an earlier post....I should have read the details closer the first time.   So, our Bt50 credit should show-up within 5 business days "after 26 Aug which should be by around 2 Sep."

Seems like putting solar panel on top of one's car would add a measurable amount of charge over the course of a day's usage or while parked outside?

A 700W Solar panel is 2384mm x1303mm which is probably all you would be able to get onto the horizonal surfaces of a car.

700W x 8hrs = 5.6kWh @ 7km/kWh = 39.2km which could possible cover your daily commute.

Personally I will continue to charge my EVs from the solar panels on the roof of my house, but not everyone is fortunate enough to have a roof to put panels on.

Waay too much,

Op from a 700w panel More like 2.5units a day so 20km.

And your car out in the sun all day would mean repainting every year or two.

Yea, to get max power out of a solar panel it needs to be receiving "bright" sunshine "perpendicularly" (i.e., 90% to a given line),   Unless a person is going to be constantly moving their EV during the day trying to maintain that perfect perpendicular line of sight between the solar panel and the sun they are going to fall far short of some power amount only attainable in a  "laboratory environment" testing environment...and of course this would also assume never a cloud in the sky.  Plus, the entire top of a EV covered with black-blue solar cells (say goodbye to your sunroof) ain't going to look that good IMO.   And the additive cost to provide a kilowatt or two of charging per day just ain't worth it.

Now I'm expect there is experiential solar "paint" and/or "wrap" which someday in the future may allow the entire surface of a car (sides, front, back & top) to generate electricity.....and you can still wax it!!!  Oh, what the future will probably bring!

Regarding Spark EV chargers I see that many of the Spark EV charger locations are now shown in the ReverSharger charging app also.  I don't mean just being shown/listed as nice-to-know info but you can't start a charging session, I mean apparently you can actually start and pay for a charging session using ReverSharger app as the ReverSharger app only shows  those charging stations that you can actually use with the ReverScharger app.    Just like how you use the ReverSharger app to see and use  Sharge chargers at Shell and SUSCO stations.  I've used the ReverSharger app several times to use Shell Sharge chargers.

The Spark EV charger icon is a red lightning bolt within a red circled white background.   I assume if using the ReverSharger app to start a Spark charging session the payment would come from your "ReverSharger" payment profile versus from your Spark charging app payment profile if you have registered with Spark.

Now "all" Spark EV chargers do not show on the ReverSharger charging app based on a quick comparison I did between the ReverSharger and Spark apps, but many do appear on the ReverSharger app.

Snapshots from the ReverSharger Charging App

which now also shows many (not all) Spark chargers...

I added a few blue pointers to point out a couple Spark charger

icons.

@KhunLA

Interesting how Gentari and E-Volt have teamed-up for "some" charging stations  like how they show Gentari "and E-Volt" on the charging station itself and the sign off to the left side.   See enlarged image at bottom.

When I saw the video and saw the name Gentari that was a charging network I had never heard of.    I installed the Gentari app and played with it for a while in Guest mode which allows a person to see their charging stations across Thailand and even down into Malaysia and Singapore.   And the app has a good FAQ section which answers a lot of questions a person might have such as what options are offered to pay for a charging session?

When reviewing their charging stations displayed by black pindrops for a DC stations, violet pindrops for AC stations, and grey pindrops for stations being offline, I noticed when using the  charging station "map filter" and unselecting E-volt that all the Thailand black pindrop "DC charging stations" disappeared which indicates all the DC stations on the Gentari app are actually E-volt stations.  HOWEVER, it sure appears a  person can use the Gentari app to start and pay for a charging session at that particular E-volt station; it's not one of those cases where another charging network's station can also be displayed just as nice-to-know info but you can't actually start a charging session.

Then when doing some more review of the those "DC stations" that also had pictures it reaffirmed at least to me that E-volt was the provider of the all DC stations on the Gentari app map (although Gentari may also have its name on the charger at some locations) .

Yeap, another example of more charging networks beginning to allow a person to use charging stations on different charging networks instead of just simply displaying other charging network stations but you still have to use the other network's app to do an actual charging session.

Yes sir, more charging networks now sleeping together.     Over the last few weeks I've installed around a half dozen "lesser-known" Thailand charging network apps on my phone and played with them a little without actually registering.  I'll provide an overview of my "playing around" over the coming days.  And some of these "lesser-known" charging networks I just may registered with if they have DC chargers in locations I might use in my future travels and the registration is simple/easy/fast/only require very basic personal info--two such charging network apps are OneCharge and iGreen+.

Gentari's name is very prominent in the image but E-volt branding (in orange) is also there

Below are the eight (8) main Thailand EV charging networks I'm registered with and have used multiple times with the exception of the EVolt app which I only registered with recently and haven't given one of their chargers a real world test but I expect they work just fine.

I chose these particular 8 apps since they cover approx 90% or more of the "DC Fast Chargers" in Thailand....I really don't care about their "AC Charger Stations (i.e., 7-22Kw AC chargers)" which they also have plenty of because when on road trips I want to charge "fast" at a DC charger vs setting for hours charging at a low power AC charger.   The only AC charger I love & cherish is my home AC 7KW wall charger that I use all the time....just like how a person uses a smartphone charger to keep their phone charged.

Actually and excluding 5 months of free charging at ReverSharger DC chargers,  in my road trips I've only "really needed" to use a DC Fast Charger twice to ensure I could get back home to Bangkok on a day trip...and that was on trips from Bangkok to Takhli and to Rayong.   My road trips so far have been limited to approx a 225 km  "radius" from Bangkok simply because these have been sight seeing day trips.  But if/when I do need to go on a truly long, multi-day trip by being registered with these 8 apps it's going to be pretty much impossible not being able to easily & frequently drive by a DC Faster Charger assuming I'm staying on main roads passing thru small towns vs traveling on small roads for long distances out in the jungle, sticks, cane & rice fields, etc.

Now, I'm also registered with one more charging network called "Power Envision" (my 9th registration) which uses a LINE app vs an Android/Apple app....I've only used it once at a nearby Foodland but it worked easy & fine....I registered more out of curiosity than anything else since it was using an LINE app which was "super" easy to register on and use....was using 30 and 40KW DC Chargersactually easier than a normal Android/Apple app.

Below 8 Android/Apple charging network apps are not listed in any particular preference but I will have to say there are a lot of PTT fuel stations across Thailand and many of these dino fuel stations also have DC chargers (more and more everyday) although the fuel station may not have an EV sign on their main PTT roadside sign.  In fact, my experience so far is less than half of the PTT fuel stations that also have chargers have a EV sign on their main road sign.

Regardless of the chargers you are looking for, be sure to use charging network "apps" to show where chargers are located as they are very numerous around Thailand...do not expect to see an "EV Charger Here" type road sign as you drive along as the great majority of the time there will not be any EV sign----use the charging network apps....and/or app like Plug & Share or ChargeLoma to see where chargers are located as they are almost everywhere now days.   Between Plug & Share and ChargeLoma I prefer ChargeLoma as it's focused predominately on the  "primarily/major" charging networks in Thailand, how it allows you to display just certain networks, etc.

PTT EV Station Pluz probably should be one of the first charging apps a person registers with simply because they there are many PTT fuel stations across Thailand which have DC/AC chargers.  However, everyone will have a different preference mostly because of how numerous certain charging networks will be located where they live and where they typically do Out & About road trips, those weekends drives to checkout some place you never been to before, etc.

In closing, I will soon post about some 'minor but growing" charging networks here in Thailand.  I haven't registered with any of these smaller (but growing) networks yet but I've played around with some of the apps (or their websites) without registering so see what kind of chargers they have and where the chargers are located.  But  I am thinking about registering with two of them once they get a few more "DC Fast Charger" locations under their belt. Lot of charger competition and growth happening right now.    More to come.

Charging Networks I'm Registered With....networks that use Android/Apple apps

Snapshot of the Power Envision charging network "LINE app" which some folks might

find useful especially in the Bangkok area....it seems to be one of these new charging

networks primarily using DC chargers in the 30-40KW power range along with 7-22KW AC

chargers and focusing on any business that wants to install a EV chargers at their place

of business, at/in condo high rises, hotels, etc...etc...etc.

image.png.a839262e2648ede734666ded5a6a771f.png

Below shows some more charging networks in Thailand.   A couple are major networks like On|ion and MEA but seem to be concentrated in major cities like the greater Bangkok area and seem to concentrate on locations such as malls, condo buildings, businesses, etc.,  "and predominately use AC 7-22KW chargers" although they do have some DC chargers.

When the wife and I went on a road trip the other day to Mueang Chonburi we stopped at the Central Chonburi Mall right in the center of city for lunch at Sizzlers.  Parking was hard to find BUT if I had been registered with the On|ion charging network which had like around 10 charging parking slots with only 2 EVs charging I could have parked in one of those slots and done some slow AC charging while spending an hour or so at Sizzlers.   On|ion chargers seems to be a most Central Malls plus some other non-mall locations.

The My GWM app seems to be very similar to the BYD app which concentrates on giving info about your GWM EV but you can apparently also use it for charging and it appears anyone could register and use it for charging.  Maybe someone uses below "My GWM" app and can provide more detailed crossfeed.

One or two of the apps give little or no info regarding their chargers locations unless you register "or you go to their website to see the locations/types of chargers."

In my earlier post I mentioned I'm thinking about registering with two of the smaller networks once they get some more DC charger locations....those two networks are OneCharge and iGreen+ shown below.

If anyone is registered with and use below apps for charging please provide us some crossfeed on what you think about them.

Think these are the only ones we're registered with.  Use Pluz mainly, since most at PTT Parks, then PEA.  Only used Elexa & eVolt a couple times.  Just testers on the other 2.

Registered with MG of course, (having ZS), but rarely use now.

Yeap....an E-Volt charger works just fine as this afternoon I used one for the first time at a brand new E-volt charging location in the town of Salaya which is a town just west of Bangkok in Nakhon Pathom province.  Mahidol University and several other colleges are located in Salaya....it's basically a college a town and growing fast.

Anyway, the late week of August I noticed this new Evolt charger location keep appearing "and disappearing" in the Evolt app...it was named "EVT X Evolta Station" with the words "Coming Soon" right under the name.  And when the new location appeared in the app it showed 12 (twelve) charging heads (i.e., each charging head rated at 120KW).  Sometimes the app would show one or two charging heads in use and the remaining offline.   I figure the chargers were just being installed and then tested for a little while.

This Saturday I drove by the new location on the way back from the MIL's house and saw one charger (two charging heads) was already installed and another one was being lifted off the truck onto the ground as I watched.  Yeap, just as I thought they are installing the chargers and probably running test to confirm the installation is good.   But there were no EVs charging.

On 1 Sep/Monday/yesterday I notice the Evolt app now showed the location "without" the Coming Soon note after the location's name and only 6 (six) 120KW charging heads were online.  All of sudden instead of showing 12 charging "and coming soon" it was just showing 6 charging heads and all of them online and some in use.

So, today/2 Sep/Tuesday when at the Salaya main market I drove to the new charging location which was around 2Km away....there were three brand new chargers installed each with two charging heads/guns with three Mahidol University EV buses charging and at least another half dozen Mahidol EV buses just parked close buy.   So, it appears the new location is probably focused at the EVs used by the half dozen of so universities in Salaya.    Will the new location add three more chargers each with two charging connectors?...I couldn't say.  But I didn't see any signs of construction for three more chargers.....time will tell.

But the station is open to the public also.  I did a complete, real world test where I added Bt200 to my Evolt app wallet (you can use QR code or debit/credit card top-up....I topped up with the QR code method).  I then plugged into one of the chargers and sucked in approx Bt90 baht of those Evolt electrons leaving Bt110 in the Evolt wallet for future use.

Yeap, Evolt chargers work just fine....and below is a snapshot from the app of the new location....even at 8:11pm at night 3 of the 6 charger heads were in use---probably 3 Mahidol buses charging up in prep for tomorrow.

Downloaded and successfully registered the Spark charging app and loaded up 300 baht from TrueMoney.

Entered the code and got a further 300 baht coupon to be used within 2 months. ( also did the survey for an additional 50 baht but that hasn’t landed yet ).

I got the Bt50 credit to my coupon yesterday.  The credit was suppose to be provided within 5 business days of last day of the questionnaire collection period which ran from 13-26 Aug.  If Spark EV only considers Mon-Fri as a business day vs also counting Sat as some businesses do then the latest a person should have gotten the credit was 2 Sep but I had not received the credit.

Around 8pm on 2 Sep I still hadn't received the credit yet so I sent a LINE post to Spark Customer Service about not getting the credit yet...they responded quickly saying they would look into it....they had to contact another department.   Got a response shortly saying the credit would appear before end of 2 Sep.  However, next morning/3 Sep still no credit.   I bugged them again via LINE post, they said they will look into it again, and late 3 Sep I got a LINE response saying the credit has been added to my coupon wallet, how much my coupon wallet balance had been increased, and apologies for the delayed credit.

My coupon wallet balance had indeed increased by Bt50 and the Redeemed credit image did appear in my Spark wallet but this credit does "not" show in the wallet transaction history like the Bt300 new member credit did.   I don't know if the Bt50 credit might have showed up on 3 Sep even if hadn't bugged customer service twice.  Regardless, all is good now....I got the Bt50 credit.  Spark customer service was very responsive to the LINE posts I sent....good English language responses...responded each time within minutes.  YMMV.

YMMV.

Thanks @Pib, i took a look at the app just now and it says the same as yours “ redeemed 3 Sept 2025 “.

Am assuming it will debit when i next use a Spark charger?, glad to see no expiry date.

Yea...I also noticed it didn't have an expiration data like the 60 days new member Bt300 credit.   But I won't be taking the chance....I'll drain my "coupon" wallet balance within 60 days from trips.

Thanks ...  the forum is good for something 👍

These Spark EV stations might be a little busy from Sep 6-7 and 13-14....Why?.....because "Free" charging.

And today I noticed another brand new Spark EV DC charger had been installed at a Bangchak station which is about a 5 minute low speed drive from my western Bangkok home.  And right across the road at  KFC which is even closer to me another brand new Spark EV charger has been installed.  Neither appear on the Spark app yet as I expect they haven't went operational yet, but I expect they soon will.

EV chargers are popping-up like weeds...and typically there is no roadside EV charger sign as you need to use an app to see where they are located.   PTT stations do a fair job of putting an EV sign on the main PTT roadside sign but I have found less than half of the PTT stations that have chargers have a roadside EV sign---need to use an app to find the charger locations.

Think these are the only ones we're registered with.  Use Pluz mainly, since most at PTT Parks, then PEA.  Only used Elexa & eVolt a couple times.  Just testers on the other 2.

Registered with MG of course, (having ZS), but rarely use now.

What does the current MG I-Smart for Thailand app icon look like?   Does it match below.   I'm unsure since it doesn't show "I-Smart" on the app icon.

Is it an app for charging "only".... or is it an app that can provide certain info/control of  MG vehicle and also happens to allow charging at MG chargers also?

And can anyone register with the app even those with non-MG EVs.?

Yea, I'm confused as to if there is a MG app for only using MG chargers or it's really a combo type app for MG info/control and using their chargers.

Thanks.

Same app works for both, controlling the car & charging.   Yea, wife says that the icon for it.  She's in charge of all the charging apps, since if needing, only she has a CC.

All I have is 2 USA debit cards, which I only use one, every other month to access my pension via ATM.  I don't do plastic :coffee1:

Must a person own a MG vehicle to use the app for charging or can non-MG vehicles also register with/use the app for charging?

Have to own, or owned in past, and still be member.  Couple guys on AN, were owners and still use occasionally.   They have a dealer every 150 kms, or so their promo states, and fairly accurate.

Used a lot when we first we got the ZS.  Comes in handy if others are being used.   Comfy waiting room w/munchies & coffee.

If downloading app, it's 'MG THAILAND'

Thanks.  Yea, that the one I downloaded/installed earlier today....which stirred my courtesy and also confused me.

I say confused because some web info (even the MG Thailand website) would show a MG I-Smart logo and also some Youtube videos.  Just some outdated info I guess.

And just a few minutes ago....just when your latest reply came in....I stumbled across this 2022 Autolife article talking about the new "MG Thailand" app....the one in the above google download link....the one I downloaded/installed    I guess it was replacing the MG I-Smart for Thailand app.

https://autolifethailand.tv/mg-thailand-app/

You got a reference/weblink/etc., for where you say the MG Thailand app is only for former or current MG vehicle owners?   Maybe that was true earlier on but maybe not now?

One reason I ask is if a person wants to use "GWM", repeat GWM chargers you must downloaded a combo type app for GWM vehicle control/info and use of their chargers (Just like the MG Thailand app....see weblink at bottom).  HOWEVER, apparently a non-GWM vehicle owner can register on the app and use GWM chargers.  I called GWM customer service a few days ago to specifically ask the question can "non-GWM" owners register on/use the app for GWM charger use only?

I was told Yes by the customer service rep which spoke great English.  The rep said Yes, anyone can use GWM chargers by registering with/using the GWM app....it's just you'll not be able to use those parts of the GWM app where you could control/see info on your GWM vehicle as that requires binding your GWM vehicle to the app; you will only be able to use the app for charging at GWM chargers, look at promotions, and other "just FYI type GWM info."     Maybe MG now has the policy of "anyone" can use their MG Thailand app for charging purposes only if desired...no need to be a MG vehicle owner.

Since GWM and MG have a good amount of DC chargers around Thailand I'm interested in registering with their apps "if a non-GWM, non-MG" vehicle owner can register on their apps for the sole purposes of using their chargers.

Quick G search, and conflicting info.  Yes / no ... non MGs can, can't, then they talk about plugs & adaptors for non complying plugs.

I know 2 AN members have charged the BYD at MG, but they own/owned MGs.  I've never seen any non MGs vehicles charging.

When registering at MG the app for charging, they give you a chipped member card, to access the chargers.  Although, I don't think the wife has used it every time to charge.  Might be because the internet was down, and she couldn't scan, so card would come in handy.

So much for a definitive answer 🙄

I hope they keep it restricted ... ME ME ME syndrome

With all the available EV stations, I rarely see anyone using MG dealer chargers.  Of course, you would actually want or need  to charge, when near one, and all the others are so convenient, with markets, chain coffee shops & food vendors, why would anyone go out of their way to use MG.

We rarely use MG ourselves.

MG have a card you can get which will allow you to use their chargers, you have to get it from HQ in Bangkok.

It’s not easy, my local MG dealer tried and failed but that was 4 or 5 years ago.  The chargers work fine with any CCS2 car, I charged my previous German EV ok, but the chargers are only 50Kw (Chiang Rai local one anyway).

@KhunLA  @JBChiangRai

Thanks guys.  Yeap, when googling the subject as to if non-MG vehicle owners can use MG chargers seems to be very vague.

I came to the opinion last night that non-MG owners with non-MG EVs could use MG chargers, but the way the google info was written it all seemed to be referenced back to/a copy of some past MG-written info/advertising that wanted to give people the impression the MG network was highly focused towards MG owners but at the same time with a "wink-wink" indirectly saying non-MG owners/vehicles could also use MG chargers.

i called the MG 24/7 customer service number around 8pm last night to see if I could get an answer, but after listening to elevator music for about 5 minutes I hung-up.  Called again this morning a little after 9am, got a human within about 2 minutes, but the the rep couldn't speak English although I had pressed the button for an English language rep.   The rep did take my phone number supposedly for an English language rep to call me back.

Occasionally (not very often at all) I accidently run across a MG DC charger in some fuel station/store parking lot but have never seen one in use.   Some even looked like they had cobwebs on them.   I ran across one just a few weeks ago when I was testing Spark EV chargers....I arrived at this large Bangchak station/mall which had around 4 or 5 different charging network chargers....like Spark, MEA, PEA, ReverSharger, and MG.  The Spark charger was about 20 meters from the MG charger.  While doing a test charge at the Spark charger I went over and looked closely at the MG DC charger....the charger just seemed dead....non-operational....like it hadn't been used for a long time....impression of cobwebs on it.   But hey, the MEA charger about 10 meters away looked almost in the same condition while the Spark, PEA, and ReverSharger chargers were in-use.

I expect most MG chargers that are used are at MG Dealerships which are mostly inside towns; not many on "main highways" where people do long distance travel.   Anyway, if MG customer support calls me back and gives me an answer about use of the chargers I will post it here.  Cheers.

Actually many are on the main roads, and we've never really had to go out of our way to use one.

An English speaking MG rep called back around 2pm today.  He said only MG vehicles can use MG chargers....he said during the MG Thailand app setup a person would be required to enter some MG vehicle specific data in the app registration setup/profile in order order to making the charging function work (i.e., use chargers).   I actually rephrased the the question a couple of times like can a "BYD vehicle be charged at a MG DC Fast Charger by using the app?    The answer was No....once again the rep said a person wouldn't be able to fully setup the app without entering some MG vehicle specific info like VIN, frame number, etc.   But even after hearing this with my own two big ears, I'm still not 100% convinced.

Question for @KhunLA @JBChiangRai  who have used MG chargers in order to pay for a charging session must a person use money in the app's "wallet" to pay for a charging session or can you also pay directly from a credit card or QR code payment?   I know (think) you can "top-up" the app's wallet using a card or QR payment into the wallet, but can you pay directly for a charging session using a card, QR code, etc....not use the wallet function....or MUST the payment come from the wallet?

If a person can pay directly for a charging session via card or QR code I just may try app registration and then go to a MG dealership less than 10 minutes away to see if my BYD vehicle can be charged using the MG DC charger.   One thing for sure I don't want to put money into the app's wallet only to then find out I still can't start charging session....that money I put into the app's wallet would then surely be non-retrievable/non-refundable....and I ain't going to buy a MG vehicle just to burn-off that wallet balance.  😀Thanks.

We've only used the app wallet.  Top up app with CC/DC or QR code.
