I come across so many posters who sound the same with different user names.

I was reading a thread the other day and someone called out a poster who may of changed names.

Don't we all deserve to be informed if this is the case?

 

 

Not withstanding any politics of a name change; would be a good idea IMO. Perhaps a line stating (for a period of time after change) "formerly known as..."

Probably a fair amount of coding needed. Maybe cost prohibitive. Let's see.

 

No.  Its an anonymous  forum, so there is no rational reason for that suggestion. Despite what many seem to believe, forums are not the real World, not even a cross section of the real World.

So members might be aware of previous interactions, conversations and reputation. Failing that, then no name changes. Set up a new account and start again.

 

Normal practice is you can check their profile for previous knick names.

 

It is a possibility the admin can add.

Banned posters return now and again in a reincarnated avatar User name.  If the powers to be determine the account is a banned members account that account will then be closed as well.  If one thinks a new member is a reincarnated member, well then your call as to what to do with the report button.

No, but why is that relevant?  Its an anonymous public  forum, not a Court of Law, or a University debating society. People take themselves, and others, far too seriously on these things.  So what if some people decide to change their names?  Do you honestly believe that all the members on this and other forums actually tell the truth about who they are, where they are, where they are from  and what their real views are?  If you do, then you are sadly misinformed.

I.e. there was, or maybe still is, a guy who pretends to know things about computers. I blocked him because I got tired of his nonsense. And then maybe weeks or month later there is a new member with another name writing the same nonsense. So maybe I read two or three post until I was sure that he is a waste of time and then I blocked him again. Maybe I wasted 5 or 10 min of my live. No problem.

 

I was often enough suspended for days. Sometimes I thought about creating a new account. But then I thought: No problem if I don't post anything for a week.

I don't know if now I behave better or the admins don't suspend account or only me not so fast anymore.

 

And then it happens that some members make some comments, maybe while they are drunk, who later realize that this didn't make them look better. If they want to change their name and start fresh, then let them do it. I don't care.

The guys who are on here with more than 1 profile are let's be honest a bit weird. Some have trolling profiles same on facebook, it's an issue on facebook for sure

Of course they don't admit it, but you can notice similar writing style, maybe similar subjects. Sometimes it's a troll account which they can use to be negative always, other profile is more balanced

I have often wondered when reading some topics that get a little heated.

When one poster is very quick to back up another,is it the same poster.

But i have no way to tell.

I have noticed you said Mac Mickmanus and Leaver are the same person in a recent post. I think they have completely different styles and topics of discussion. But I guess who cares.

I thought Leaver was Mac Mickmanus's alterego troll account hence always negative but could be wrong, others are easier to spot

Obviously that is possible, but I think it's would also be stupid.

Sometimes I agree with others, sometimes I disagree. And sometimes I learn something from others, i.e. good ideas or why they think how they think.

Mostly my reason to write here is to have a discussion and to see how other people think about things. Adding posts like "OMF is right" or "I totally agree" would be a waste of time - at least IMHO.
