Cable car system proposed by Pattaya City officials to solve Pattaya traffic problems

Pattaya –Pattaya City is proposing to solve traffic problems in the area with a cable car system.

A meeting was held Wednesday (December 14th) and was led by the Pattaya City Deputy Mayor Manot Nongyai and the head of Public Works of Pattaya City, Mr. Christ Cherdsuriya.

 

Swiss Advice Company presented the idea to Pattaya City. These cable cars are technology from BARTHOLET, a leading international company from Switzerland that specializes in cable and ropeway systems. Cable cars can transfer thousands of passengers per hour. The technology is best suited for Pattaya City to solve traffic problems and would be designed, implemented, and maintained by BARTHOLET.

 

The construction cost is not too high and needs less space than other proposals. The construction can also be done at night time which can reduce the effects to current traffic.

 

It is worth to invest and benefits a lot of users with cheap passenger fees, although a specific fee and pricing structure were not yet presented. The cable car can carry up to ten passengers at a time as well as be available for disabled people, said Swiss Advice Company representatives.

What a stupid idea.

 

People come to walk along the seaside and along the beach, stopping along the way, not be crammed into a hot metal box from end to end.

 

It seems they want to address foot traffic, unless you can hang your vehicle below the cablecar.

 

Why not just send a drone, and people could just watch the beach online from their own country?

No way I'm getting in one of em, they're bound to get breakdown and you'll be stuck in a hot tin can for hours. Are they gonna be air conditioned? Are there going to be platforms along the way? Can't see one in sight from that graphic.
 
How do they transfer "thousands of passengers per hour" per the blurb? If each car takes 4 people, and there are 50 cars say travelling in each direction, and they travel at 5km/hr, even at maximum capacity the system will not achieve thousands per hour.

And then the logistical issue of if you spot a nice looking freelancer whilst travelling overhead, how do you pick her up...get off at the next stop and run back?

This might not be as bad as you think, the cable car system can provide a convenient and efficient way for those who want to avoid traffic or don’t want to get scammed by the local taxi mafia. But hey, who wouldn't want to miss out on the delightful experience of walking along the filth-strewn ladyboy beach with cigarette butts and other garbage scattered about?

Few weeks ago pattaya came to a complete stop but traffic problems are nua.bukhaow.sth pattaya ect how will this help if only @ beach road

I suspect that a committee will be set up, consultants will consult etc and once sufficient of the brown envelopes have been passed the idea will be quietly dropped.

Actually if it ran above the trees near the beach it would be quite good in  my opinion, nice sea views - but I would fear it collapsing with rain run off

maybe they should first try an understand under what circumstances a cable car system is a feasible option.

Surprise, surprise they don't want to discuss pricing ... lol. I doubt Thais will pay Swiss "cheap" prices. This "Pie in the Sky" project has as much chance of being implemented as Thai immigration being considerate of the foreigner's needs.

After all these years, the Thai authorities and its gifted leadership still amazes me with what kind of ideas they are coming up with. Cables and ropes are not the solution of the self-inflicted issue and traffic jams. 

Such transport is used in rugged terrain, across rivers, up hills and mountains, across valleys etc. and nowhere used as mass transport. Latter would suggest ample parking for x-thousands of cars and a vehicle free city zone with buses roaming on fixed routes. Much cheaper and, except a huge car park, no other infrastructure.

Since Switzerland is quoted, you might want to look at the holiday resort of Zermatt; vehicle free for ages. You MUST arrive by (public) train, bicycle or foot from Täsch, some eight kilometres further North. 

Zermatt is doing thriving business and, few and far exceptions, everyone else absolutely enjoys the fresh air without noise and people can roam anywhere by foot. The train runs 84 times daily and between midnight and early morning there is a service every hour to the hour. 

But yeah, putting such a bus service in place here in would not bring the expected cash shower for the selected few ............. In closing, we all know that after some seriously overpriced feasibility studies, the entire idea will disappear into thin air until another expert comes up with the splendid idea of proposing an underground train network ????
