That is, in some small part, why there’s no real rush to fix things… IF/WHEN something happens, there’s commonly little “blow back” and the costs of whatever DOES happen, is comparatively small - to that of the costs to actually fix the issue 

 

I don’t think massive lawsuits is the solution mind you, but having a situation where there a very very low risk of real financial liability due to successful liability cases, is one contributing reason why a business may low prioritize these matters

Every person who has done any wiring work at my house has used duct tape, including a relative who claims to have gone to electrician college for three years and to have worked at large hotels in Bangkok. I've argued with my wife about it and demanded a proper job be done, but no-one here is going to tell anyone they need to do a job properly because it would cause loss of face. The only solution is DIY.

Back to the young man who died - from Thairath News he'd been resident in Thailand since age of five years so I think we can ignore the 'avoiding Putin' claims.

Just a kid. Though a very tall one, 2.10m at age 19.

His younger brother Benjamin Sobolev, 16, was also present at the time of his brother's death

 

He was the second runner-up in the world in 2018-2019 for Flow Rider Global (surf simulator, as shown above).

He only took up basketball at age 17, and played for the Pattaya Basketball Club team and competed in some of Thailand's major 3x3 basketball tournaments, sweeping almost every championship.

Very lucky people who helped did not receive electric shocks also Can be risky , pulling anyone away or off from electricity source metal or pipe whatever the current going right through them into someone else tyring help lucky not more casualty you think doing right thing its normal reactive moment ! If the picture is the actual wiring involved , then it looks like a complete amateur botch-job and was an accident waiting to happen.

I also think in very poor taste!   You are correct.. a guy young has lost his life, and it should not matter what his nationality was...  I wonder if this keyboard warrior would have made that same comment if it was his young brother?   Most people on this forum are still just plain sad.

Hopefully, someone will be charged with negligence causing death, or dereliction of duty causing death and loses their job and spends some time in prison.

Also a healthy payment to the parents.

I think it is common here.  Only reason this is in the news it its a farang that died.   A Thai friend of our was electrocuted and died a few months back from faulty wiring at his new shop.

Yeah.... What do you think the probability of that happening is?  Maybe some grovelling and money to the poor kids family in lucky.  Doubt anyone will be held responsiable.

The rescue teams should carry a 2 metre dry wooden pole with a hook at the end to pull people away from live wires.

Adequate compensation is only a part of the solution , what is really needed is a slew of manslaughter charges aimed at those responsible for these incidents.

That means the heads of departments not some 500 baht a day fall guy.

Will never happen though of course , corruption and lack of responsibility too heavily embedded into the national psyche.
