Thai man dead, had "genitals ripped apart" in Pit Bull attack - owner says he's had enough of his pets

What is with this whole "finding another home for dangerous animals instead of putting them down"? Surely this is a joke? Offering someone a trio of animals that mauled someone to death?

But in Thailand there is a law to protect animals from cruel owners.

what really bothers me in these countless stories is how the owners seem so unremorseful... like they are not really responsible but because they are the owners then they MUST take responsibility. To speak so nonchantly to say "I've had enough of these dogs" it's like he is talking about a small trivial matter..... they killed a man.... his dogs killed a man and he, as the owner IS responsible.... he should be doing serious jail time!!! Crazy crazy...

This breed of dog should be banned in Thailand. I assume all three of the dogs are going to be put to sleep. Unfortunately you cant do the same with the owner.

i bet this guy wouldn't even blink if someone approached him and said I have 2 young kids but I want them.... he'd hand them over without a care in the world or a single worry about what could and mostly like would happen. I just don't get this mentality in Thailand... people seem to have zero conscience here about their actions.

I wasn't answering your question. I care for dogs in semi retirement to augment my income, and was in a dog park today with a couple of small dogs where there was a really sweet natured pit bull/staffy cross whose owners have trained her to do 'party tricks' but also been very concerned to adequately socialise the animal. I am always a little concerned with dogs in my care around pit bulls and staffies, but this dog gave no indication of aggression towards people or animals.

 

When I was teaching some years back in a socio-economically depressed area, many of my students had pit bulls at home which were used in pig hunting. Sometimes when I see a pit bull with a heavily muscled owner I figure the owner wants a dog that mirrors his own personality. In Australia, the majority of pit bull owners are responsible people. To be honest, I am not sure why the breed is so popular. Hopefully it's not because people want a pet want a pet that complements their personality or to be used as a guard dog. I just don't think they are appropriate in country's that allow dangerous animals to live once they have killed or maimed, even if the owner is a nice bloke willing to pay for victims' funerals.

Three dogs allowed to run free whether pit bulls, German shepherds, Rottweiler's or even soi dogs is the real problem. I run the gauntlet some days with aggressive soi dogs. Any dogs over two are a pack and a pack is dangerous. Pitbulls are bred to fight other dogs fact and can be aggressive to them and unpredictable but if looked after and trained and socialized an individual dog is like the other breeds not a problem. Again it's down to the owner why have 3 dogs and not look after them. Pitbulls always get the bad press even if it's not a pitbull just looks a bit like one. Only a photo of one dog and is that one involved in the attack?

RIP to the person sadly attacked by an out of control pack of dogs.

Not a forgone conclusion in Thailand. However what iswould be if you killed the dog heavy fine or prison.

"put to sleep"?  I don't think so.  Most veterinarians will not euthanize a dog or any other animal.  I believe that there are government (Tessaban) workers who might catch a dangerous dog, but they won't kill them.  So who is left?  The police?  Unless there is something in it for them, they will usually do nothing.  

 

Dogs are protected in Thailand by both law and custom.  Killing a dog is a crime and the killer could face both fines and prison time.  Perhaps someone with more knowledge can correct me, but I have never heard of a legal mechanism in Thailand to deal with a killer dog.

 

Having said that, after the news has died down, the dogs will probably have some sort of 'accident' and quietly die.

I would do it. These animals are too dangerous to people. Kiling aperson to me is a bigger crime but no one seems to bother about that.

A large black dog which used to run loose on our small soi, frightened the life out of my 8 yr old Daughter when it "went for her" as she was walking to the house, and she was extremely upset.

If you can not see the difference between people killing each other and dogs killing people then i feel sorry for you.

They have no problem killing millions of pigs, chickens and cows every year with hammers to the head.  No problem catching and keeping wild birds in tiny cages in the full sun, no problem fishing, shooting birds of prey, killing rats and mice, no problem curtting down forests and ancient trees for 'development', not a problem burning the forests on the mountains and trapping endangered deer and wild pigs. No problem torturing elephants to 'break' them and keep them in chains for tourists entertainment etc.
