The UK gov website is huge, and it was a long time ago? I thought you were talking contemporary activity. Anyway, my method works for me, no charges and I can hold the £ until the exchange rate is favourable. Wise usually has amongst the best rates.
When me and my wife moved back to the US, before we had work place we enrolled in an ACA plan.
It was day one and since we hadn't got a job the tax credits paid for it.
Now I wouldn't have liked to get really sick cos deductibles and co-insurance would have been terrible.
But I could go to the doc for $30 and get a prescription for $15.
Got us both through until we both got jobs
My wife works for DoD. Her health insurance is socialism on steroids!

Potentially could cause very high inflation (10-20% increase+) in the coming month and will hurt thais in the long run
