Woman Senator Lashes At Prayut For Doing Nothing To Combat Corruption

SENATOR PORNTHIP Rojanasunand has today (Jan.19) taken Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to task for allegedly doing nothing to combat corruption among government personnel.

 

In a rare criticism of the prime minister, Pornthip posted on her Instagram page to say Prayut has obviously remained non-committal to graft scandals surrounding high-ranking government officials and grey Chinese businesspersons in Thailand, among others.

 

Pornthip said Prayut who is looking to retain power after the next general election has so far done nothing to fight corruption which has evidently gone from bad to worse in the bureaucratic circles.

Please more people bash away.  However I lost all faith in Thai voters when they voted in the new constitution.  I'm thinking many can't read, and lots don't have time or desire to read about the politicians.   I think it's more who the village headman tells them to vote for.

Good on her. Someone needs to state the obvious and launch a major investigation into the affairs of Prayuth, Prawit, Phiphat, Anutin and the corrupt senators. 

 

They have never addressed human trafficking, sex slavery, and abuse in the fishing industry. 

 

They have never addressed corruption, on any level. 

 

They have never addressed police reform. 

 

They have never addressed the multitude of air, water and other environmental issues. 

 

They have never addressed public or traffic safety. 

 

They appoint based solely on cronyism, and never consider merit, talent, or experience. And this has led to the current catastrophic state of the economy, the Covid response, and the sabotage and destruction of the once vital tourism industry. 

 

Prayuth and this administration are the do nothing people. Their sole purpose is to protect the elite, the super rich, corporations, the police, immigration, customs, and those currently in power. Nothing else matters to these dinosaurs. 

 

And Thailand will pay the price for this failed regime for years to come. Woe are the people of Thailand. 

 

They justly deserve all the criticism, humiliation and shame that can be heaped upon them. 

 

Out with the dinosaurs. In with the youth!

I agree with all you say but the reality is the unelected Senate has a majority pro-military contingent.

The military was apparently not satisfied with the pre-coup 2007 Constitution that provided for a 50% elected Senate. Corruption can run more unabated in government when it extends into the judiciary, the 'congress,' and various so-called anti-corruption oversight organizations.

The "Deep State" in Thailand is very deep and broad. And frankly no peaceful democratic process can truly affect it. So nice the woman senator "lashes" but a song bird's tweet is about as useful.

they don't have time to address anything outside of their own small world, it takes time to pin on all the braiding and medals and wind all the watches and then deciding which one to wear each day.

Give them a break, there's only so much time in every day.

when the draft came out, anyone criticizing it were arrested, and many said that just vote it through so that we can have an election and get back on track to democracy and the constitution can be amended

 

decade in, any attempt to amend the constitution is shot down by the very mechanism that was the point of contention about the constitution, the appointed senate... now it's as if it's set in stone

It really annoys me that the villagers need a headman telling them what to do every day on the loud speakers. Obviously the thinking is that they can't think for themselves.

It's so endemic I don't think anyone can ever stop or even reduce it.

Most of the time in our village the headman only uses the speakers to disseminate news that affects the populace. The main reason being that about 70% are illiterate, therefore it is the only way to get news out. Things like when to go and register for handouts, what is happening to the infrastructure, when, and for how long the electricity is going to be off. 

However, as 2Baht pointed out, the education system is working..........keep them dumb, then lead like sheep.

On the contrary. She was criticised by those who wanted her decisions to be made according to their instructions, rather than her making decisions based on the facts. She has always walked  where others fear to tread, and all credit to her for that. She bravely risks reprisals in one form or another...

The village I live in the headman has little power. His main job is acting as a notary signing documents for a 100฿ tip. If the villagers heard him promoting any candidate ,there first question would be " how much was he paid? " and " if they want my vote they should pay me ,not the headman."

There is no hope for Thailand, no government has ever really gone after corruption. The next government will be the same. You can see it clearly by senators just hopping to where they can get the most benefits without any political allegiance. This just shows they are in it for the money.

 

PTP was hugely corrupt too, Prayut was going to clean that up and failed. Nothing will change besides who gets the money. None of them want a system that is clear and transparant because then they all would loose their benefits and reasons to be in government.

 

Its a sad state of affairs, i do hope that Prayut loses. Maybe the opposition can go after corruption of the Prayut government then. But at the same time they will create their own. So its not a solution but at least some will face jailtime. Better then none at all.

Corruption runs from the top politicians, police, government workers and down to the bottom and money runs the show.  Living in Thailand you can see it where ever you look.  Thai culture is corruption from top to bottom.  How can someone go after corruption when they themselves are corrupt?

It has taken this non-elected, presumably hand-picked senator nigh on 7 years to notice that corruption isn't being eradicated. Quick work, luv.

Prayut is probably wondering how he appointed this ungrateful harridan in the first place.

You know what the funny thing is

They organize events about corruption to be followed by all lower ranked officers, in their own time (weekend) ! 

And where is corruption? Indeed the higher ranked officers.

 

What ever happend with the first scandal (2 years ago?)? Military top kept houses, hotels, malls and so on, without government (ok is military again) "knowing". They handed all over to Thai government (military), but never ever heard anything about prosecutions and investigations about it. Even Prayut was mentioned in it, as he was a part of military.

It was in Asean now brought forward.

Can not find that anymore, also the article about Prayut's involvement and even shown what Prayut is owing. That was a pretty lot for just a retired army officer(Commander in Chief of Royal Thai Army).

It is also quite silent about the immigration bureau corruption.

I do see sometimes that whistle blower on tv, but cant understand Thai.

Corruption is a mechanic to keep the status quo going. If you fight corruption, you invite systemic change. The establishment doesn't welcome change.
