Popular Post webfact
Daily News Thai Caption: Teacher who slapped student transferred Daily News followed up after a video clip secretly filmed by a student in a Math class at a school in Samut Prakan, central Thailand, showed a teacher slapping a student hard in the head. The teacher then threatened a student with a stick. Reaction to the video was swift with parents questioning teachers who turn to violence in class. Parents were angry and demanded an investigation. Daily News had been to the school but found their entry barred; attempts to contact the director were stonewalled. Later the deputy chief of the local primary school authority Phoom Phraraksa went to the school to reassure students and parents and hold a meeting. The upshot was that the female teacher concerned was transferred to an inactive post at the education authority HQ pending an investigation. She faces being put down a level, having a salary cut, or, most serious of all, being sacked. Picture: Daily News The pupil concerned was still going to school and had not suffered any ill effects, said the media. In their earlier report Daily News said they had spoken to a senior figure who said that the teacher gets on well with the students. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2023-01-20 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Popular Post lujanit
The teacher should be charged with assault and the parents should take civil proceedings against her. She should be sacked and stripped of her teaching license (if there is such a thing). Teachers, like the BIB here have been a protected species for far too long. 12 1 1 8
Popular Post SoilSpoil
Can of worms? Not condoning her actions, but a lot of Thai teachers are so stressed because of all the extra duties that come with their jobs, that they are non-stop on edge. At my previous school, most Thai teachers had to work 6 to 7 days a week, starting at 7.30 am and finishing at 6pm, without proper lunch break. I've seen several Thai teachers break down in the classroom. Needless to day that I quit and teach my own children at home. Lot of beach time now! 1 1 1

Popular Post actonion
Winding the clock back to the early 1960's with todays rules and regulations in the classroom i could have made a fortune, taking teachers to court for a slap round the ear hole, its a pity the parents don't do more of it... 11 2 1 2

Popular Post BananaStrong
I've seen this sooooooooooooooooooo many times I can't remember. I've seen falangs (teacher from Africa) do this while I was observing him. I've seen little kids get kid, over and over. As I said earlier, once I reported it to the police. Other times to the head teacher, and other times I'd just leave at the end of the semester. NOTHING happened, it was "Thai culture." There wasn't any thought of stopping it. I do think this culture is changing, and every classroom should have a few video cameras. I was at my last school for two years and never saw a kid getting hit. It's really scary how much power you have over these kids, and to abuse that power is EVIL. no question. 2

Popular Post Bert got kinky
Oh for God's sake, we are talking about a clip round the ear. Has society really gotten so soft that we are punishing teachers for doing what has been done from the beginning of time? Have we forgotten the meaning of 'spare the rod and spoil the child'. I would be more concerned of why a student had his/her phone out during lesson time. 8 1 2

Popular Post Guderian
When I was a kid in school in the UK, we were often slapped about the head and other parts of the anatomy. I won't say it built character, but it did teach you to show the teachers some respect and I don't recall it ever causing any long-term damage. I realise this has very much gone out of fashion now, and probably a good thing too, but it must make life much more difficult when dealing with a certain type of pupil. 3 3 1

Strange ...... My view on the Teachers in Thailand is quite the opposite of yours. And I can state my point of view with the teachers at the school of my daughter. An English Program school. The teacher, no difference between Thai or foreigner teachers, spend their days in school with giving the students a printer page to color, or a printed page with worthless questions taken out of the Internet. After the tremestrial test, or the semi-year test, most students had a very low result and the teacher advised the parents to left their kids take "special classes" with her/him for a good price per hour. 2

Velisbef
Im all against physical punishment, not only for students but for all people. But tbh, this isn't really that bad of a punishment. I've seen students get punished way worse, some couldnt even write for a few days. Sometimes I could hear them getting the cane from our office! Is it a good idea to do what she did? The answer is no. But I don't think she deserves to be sacked just for that!
Popular Post HappyExpat57
Having been teaching in Thailand on and off for the last 15 years, I've seen some pretty rough acts. The worst was a lesbian Thai teacher who honestly hated males. She took this one boy, 8 years old, out to a secluded hallway, had him drop his trousers, then squeezed his nutsack until he was wailing from the pain. There were two of us shocked foreign teachers who witnessed this, and when we immediately brought it to the attention of the director, she told us dismissively to mind our own business, it was just a Thai thing. Thailand really needs to address issues like these. There is NEVER any acceptable reason to hit a student, mild as it may seem. The lesson of "might makes right" is subhuman. 1 1

You think a plea from antiquity justifies violence upon children? you obviously haven't learned that a simple clip on the head can cause serious damage to the ear. I'd say you are a product of the violence administered to you as a child. 3
