Age 67 now, nothing left I want. Except another drink, another joint, another pizza and another turn with a hooker 1/2 my age. Enjoy the rest of your non-drinking life, it may not be long, but it'll sure seem like it! 2 1

Popular Post LaosLover Posted February 1, 2023 Popular Post Posted February 1, 2023 Love your posts, Bob. Good luck. Check out Curious Sober as an approach (less absolutist, not 12 steps, more about self-reflection). What gets me up in the morning is my wife. She was sick forever and is slowly getting better here in Thailand. These are my happiest days. I'm good alone, but she's my joy. My goal is to do 50 weightlifting personal training sessions at the rate of 2 a week. I'm 70. I've tried to get fit on my own, but a pre-paid time and date with someone who has worked with oldies before has made a world of diff. After 3 sessions, I'm still a blob, but my posture is noticeably better. How do I know I'll make it? I paid for all 50 sessions in advance (worked out to 750 baht per hour session versus 1,200 doing them Ala carte). The credit card slip said NO REFUND. I said, "too right". In my own twisted psyche, a financial penalty for not doing a thing works better than a reward system for doing it. I only have 6 months to do the 50 sessions. The gym is betting that I won't, like so many optimists before me; but I'm just too cheap to let those 750 baht-whacks go down the drain. Figure out how you're wired and lean into it. Forget the should's, work with your natural inclinations, not against them. 2 1

save the frogs Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 most people lead fairly dull lives (myself included). hence the need for alcohol. its good to have goals! 1

Popular Post OneMoreFarang Posted February 1, 2023 Popular Post Posted February 1, 2023 A long time ago I read a preamble in a book written by a Brazilian guy. It was similar to: You can't have sex with all the women in this world, but at least you should try. I think that is a good goal, especially in Thailand. ???? 1 1 2

As for a goal I would like to achieve ....for me , to do the Cape Wrath Trail would be a huge dream fulfilled. Wanted to go there since I was a teenager but spent my life abroad. Going for a home visit in April and am tempted to give it a go but at 65 would probably be too much. That plus to buy all the hiking gear from scratch plus getting to the start point at Fort William then back again to the Isle of Wight could easily cost 600 pounds or more. Might have a few bottles of wine and a walk along the beach instead. Almost the next best thing: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-MkLBdKS9KQRhoaVkk3ceqLdYhPuifNb

Best of luck on your sobriety journey. I've been around a long time and I am pretty sure I never met a drunk who had a good life.. Having passed 70, this becomes an interesting subject... I do have my own simple pursuits but it all takes a backseat to helping my family with the challenges they face. Personally, I know the road points downhill and things that were effortless in the past, take a bit more doing. Travel is a bore, as I vividly remember days when beaches were not overcrowded, as everything else... I do struggle with this question too... some inward journeys are holding some interest... 2 1 1

Popular Post spidermike007 Posted February 1, 2023 Popular Post Posted February 1, 2023 Good on you. Congrats. Few things done every day continue to be satisfying. Change is good. I enjoy very good wine and when back in the US, indulge my passion for it with friends and family. Same applies to stand up comedy, live jazz, theatre, ballet, really good art museums, independent and foreign film, and more. Any passion or hobby that does not cause harm to you or others is a great thing to pursue. Anything. Reading, walking, running, hiking, climbing, writing, movies, poetry, racing, sports, etc. The list goes on and on. Just find some things you really enjoy. 3
KhunLA Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 The little things keep me busy & happy around the house, if not O&A. ... Another day, another loaf of bread ... Made nice ham & shroom soup ... Winds died down, so flew the drone ... Set camera up in bathroom to vid bird nest ... Usual, dog taking me for walk at the park, and cruise surfside, make sure it's still there. ... of course the wife is here to enjoy her company ... plan the next outing, coffer shop / viewpoint 1
Popular Post sipi Posted February 1, 2023 Popular Post Posted February 1, 2023 My son plays a mean bass guitar, so I had this brain wave that I would learn the 6 string, and we could have some fun times bashing out ACDC. No-one told me the strings are quarter inch apart, and you need to be dextrous, flexible, coordinated, and not deaf or blind. Anyway, that didn't work out. 1 3

Agree with your sentiments, but IMO most have sold out to greed and will accept the evil doers as long as they are all right Jack.
