"Microsleep" led to this destruction in north - five injured

Police in Lampang, northern Thailand went to a late night one vehicle accident on Pahonyothin Road between kilometer markers 686 and 687 in Wang Phrao sub-district.

 

They found an utterly destroyed Toyota Revo pick-up.

Five people were injured, one woman seriously.

 

The driver Jaikankham, 31, said he had a "lap nai" episode - dropping off at the wheel (or microsleep) after a long journey from Mae Hong Son.

He was taking a group of Hmong people home.

 

He was uninjured and taken away by police for questioning.

How anyone survived this is a miracle. Let's hope the seriously injured pull through. Looks like it must have veered off and hit a tree. There really is a need for more barriers along the highways.

Microsleeps are common her in Thailand.... no wonder... bars and entertainment venues open till 2 am or even 4 am, every day a week....parties with a lot of sound pollution till 1 am... Temples in the morning at 5 am praying in the microphones or for preparing for activities... People get not enough sleep, or have restless sleeps.... no wonder they can't stay awake
