U.S. backs Hague Court investigation into Russian war crimes, says State Department

A day earlier, the New York Times reported that the Pentagon is blocking the U.S. from sharing evidence on Russia’s war crimes with the ICC, citing fears of setting a precedent that could be used to prosecute American soldiers in the future.

 

"What we don’t discuss is the specific forms of support that we may or may not be providing to the ICC,” Price said.

 

“We don’t want to do anything that could jeopardize the sanctity of an investigation, that could set back the pursuit of justice.”

It's almost funny when Americans want that Russia and their soldiers are prosecuted for war crimes.

But they don't want that American soldiers are prosecuted by the same courts.

 

Obviously that doesn't mean that all war crimes from Russian and American soldiers are the same. But I think we also shouldn't pretend that American soldiers don't do war crimes.

How about prosecuting all war criminals independent of where they come from?

I am not well versed in legal or diplomatic language, but does he say that some form of mock justice will be served? Or that the usa won't cooperate fully and present only a selected part of evidence they have available on war crimes in ukraine, committed by both sides?

Tne people committing the crimes are low hanging fruit, ripe for the plucking....no matter which side.

The people ordering/financing/condoning the crimes are much more culpable, and generally untouchable.

The Americans passed a law allowing themselves the right to invade the Hague (The Hague Invasion Act)  to retrieve US soldiers imprisoned for war crimes, (the Netherlands is an ally) so certain are they that such crimes have been committed. Guantanamo Bay and black sites are a few crimes that come to mind. This fear of providing information on Russian crimes is that they may be charged with similar crimes in Afghanistan.
