A motorbike rider has been killed after his bike collided with a truck in the sub-district of Rawai, on Phuket’s southern coast. According to a Phuket Express report, the accident happened at 10.50am yesterday on the Rawai Beach Road.

Rescue workers arrived on the scene to find the unnamed man lying in the road. His damaged motorbike lay nearby. The man, reported to be 61 years old by some Thai media sources, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man’s body was transferred to a local hospital, while police interviewed the truck driver, who has been named as 58 year old Samam Kontha, from the eastern province of Sa Kaeo.

According to some Thai media reports, the motorbike rider lost control of his bike just before the accident. CCTV footage from Rawai Municipality shows the truck approaching from the opposite lane before it collides with the motorbike and then runs the rider over.

Chalong Police have launched an investigation into the accident and have not ruled out legal action against the truck driver.

Seems rather harsh on the truck driver !
