THE ELECTION COMMISSION’s provincial branch of Ratchaburi was today (Apr.3) petitioned to promptly determine whether a Palang Pracharath candidate, namely Chaithip Kamonpanthip, should be banned from contesting the May 14 general election after he had been caught playing cards at parliament.

Chaithip, a former Democrat MP now seeking re-election under the Palang Pracharath tickets in Constituency 3 of the western province, has been alleged in a clip gone viral of playing cards with others in a room at parliament last January during which he was a legislator of the third largest coalition partner.

According to a group of university students who filed the petition against Chaithip, the Election Commission’s Ratchaburi branch will decide very shortly as to whether the card game played by the ex-Democrat MP at such a highly honourable venue was tantamount to a breach of the ethical code of conduct for lawmakers, which could consequently prohibit the alleged offender from contesting the upcoming election.

Thai Newsroom clearly showing political bias through it's headline which would more accurately read "Palang Pracharat candidate's candidancy questioned...".

Could've been worse.

Might've had his head buried in his all-hypnotic mobile gadget.

Playing cards, indeed.

Playing cards. Yeah, such questionable morality. We can't have a leader who plays cards.

Was the opposition but now standing for the incumbents. See first quote.

I take exception to a couple of things in the quote above:

'a highly venerable venue' where MPs can't be arsed to turn up for work;

No Thai MPs have an 'ethical code of conduct' - they're only there to milk the public purse.

Or.....being suspicious of the loyal and ever-abiding Thai mainstream media that create and distort such frivolous stories.

Always them. Never us.

Applied to all politicians world wide.

Its about gambling something that is illegal, so its ethically wrong even more so to do it in parliament. These guys should lead by example. None of them do but its great if a few of them get kicked out for doing things normal citizin get punished for.

While that is true, notice how it is almost always opposition guys, and not army clowns, who are outed? That is the issue here. That is the crux of the extreme level of moral bankruptcy consistently displayed by the Prayuth regime.

Your totally right, but the other option is letting everyone off the hook when they get caught. That is even worse. Of course the offences should not be a reason to go after the opposition. You say its just Prayut but the PTP does the same. Its a sign of Thailand where they only ever go after those that are against them instead of enforcing the laws equally.

This is of course really bad but i think its worse if nothing is ever done. I admit its not perfect but better then nothing.

The only fair party seems to be move forward that party is not morally corrupt like all the others. But they are too small to elicit change.

There is some hope, though.

Perhaps this hopeful character might enact change.

Real permanent change.

I wonder if he was playing cards when he should have been in the chamber participating in debate?

Move Forward is gaining popularity, give them time, Rome wasn't built in a day.

Yes, they were the most popular party, till the heinous, power hungry, super corrupt army regime managed to outlaw them. Thanathorn was on his way towards leadership, and he may have been the one shot Thailand had, at becoming a great nation again. Now, the jurassic creeps remain in charge.

Hopefully, that will change soon. And when it does, only arrest, exile or worse will be good enough for Prayuth, Prawit and Anutin.
