Popular Post onthedarkside Posted April 14, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 14, 2023 The Florida House of Representatives on Thursday passed a six-week abortion ban that would replace the state's 15-week ban. The bill now heads to the governor's desk for his signature. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has said he would sign a six-week ban should it be sent to his desk. The ban would prohibit all abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, before most women know they are pregnant. Popular Post thaibeachlovers Posted April 14, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 14, 2023 Most women have a period less than 6 weeks apart, so they are able to check before 6 weeks if they are pregnant. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/periods/fertility-in-the-menstrual-cycle/ The length of the menstrual cycle varies from woman to woman, but the average is to have periods every 28 days. Regular cycles that are longer or shorter than this, from 23 to 35 days, are normal. 3 2 1 4

KhunLA Posted April 14, 2023 Posted April 14, 2023 Floridians may actually have o practice responsible sex. No more abortions of convenience. Should fit right in with Christian values ... or not. Good thing half the state is probably past child bearing age. Still get their freak on with no worries ... except maybe throwing their back out ???? 12 of the 19 million shouldn't have to worry:

A bit of a hit coming the way for Florida women who are past the age of viable pregnancy but nevertheless become pregnant. 1
bamnutsak Posted April 14, 2023 Posted April 14, 2023 If life begins at conception, and abortion is murder, why are any abortions allowed? Why six-weeks? Why not a full and total ban? And prosecution of anyone who seeks or aids in an abortion? 1 2

American’s broad support for abortion has risen since the overturning of Roe v Wade last June in most polls. DeSantis is in a no win situation to be taken seriously nation wide. 3 2

But I wonder how it will affect the electability of DeSantis and the legislators who supported the bill. Of course, Florida is extremely gerrymandered so that does provide legislators a big measure of protection. 5

Much like the gun issue, where a lot of anti gun people would rather there be zero guns in America. Most people see a compromise position somewhere in the middle. This bill allows abortions up to 15 weeks for rape and incest, and also for risk of life/substantial health risk of the mother. So it is not actually a ban. More an imposition of responsibility on people who choose to be sexually active. 3 2 1 2

And what this means for poor women in the region is particularly awful. They're going to have to travel farther and more expensively if they want to get an abortion. Already the costs are prohibitively high for many. 2 1 2

A bill that would see Texas men fined $100 (£82) for masturbating has taken a step closer to becoming law after it received its first reading in the state’s House of Representatives. Under section 173.010 of House Bill 4260, the Man’s Right to Know Act, Texas men would only be allowed to masturbate under supervision, inside approved health care and medical facilities. Only seems fair to me........I hope women make up the majority in the House of Representatives. Texas anti-masturbation bill moves closer to becoming law Under the Man’s Right to Know Act, Texan men would be fined $100 for every 'unregulated masturbatory emission' - although they may be reassured to learn this is a satirical bill highlighting how women have been targeted by anti-abortion laws. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/texas-antimasturbation-bill-fine-for-masturbating-illegal-jessica-farrar-house-bill-4260-man-s-right-to-know-act-abortion-laws-women-s-reproductive-rights-health-right-to-life-right-to-choose-a7669866.html 1 3

Popular Post Bkk Brian Posted April 14, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 14, 2023 Disturbing, one can only hope women and their partners vote to get this imbecile out in the next cycle. The extended provision of up to 15 weeks if due to rape or endangering a women's life is far from adequate, what happens to those who are over 15 weeks. “This ban would prevent four million Florida women of reproductive age from accessing abortion care after six weeks — before many women even know they’re pregnant,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement issued after Thursday’s vote. “This ban would also impact the nearly 15 million women of reproductive age who live in abortion-banning states throughout the South, many of whom have previously relied on travel to Florida as an option to access care.” https://apnews.com/article/florida-abortion-ban-approved-c9c53311a0b2426adc4b8d0b463edad1 2 1

You think the states are going to devote the huge sums it would take to enforce those laws? And this assumes that the fathers actually have the means to pay. 2 1 1

Many red states are considering legislation that will prevent women from crossing state lines to get an abortion. Those aiding such travel would also be subject to prosecution. Idaho's governor signed a law this week making it illegal for an adult to transport a minor to get an abortion without their parents' consent, making Idaho the first state to limit interstate travel for abortion, as Republican lawmakers nationwide continue to limit abortion access. https://www.forbes.com/sites/anafaguy/2023/04/06/idaho-becomes-first-state-to-restrict-interstate-travel-for-abortion/?sh=32fa6eed6c50 2

I would not object to law enforcement and other agencies getting involved, with an increase in funding if necessary. Fathers with low incomes can have a percentage siphoned off to pay down their child care debt. Men need to step up and accept that their actions can have consequences as well as women. 1 1 2
